Eight Arc Lights Restored to Former City Locations
The city council, with five aldermen present, voted to restore eight additional arc lights to their former locations and to raise one light ten feet to test extended coverage. Discussions covered street lighting on Second and Fifth streets, hose purchases, hydrant upkeep after the Hannett fire, haystack removal, fire alarm modernization, and the south side watering trough relocation.

Reception for Mitchell soldiers at Grand Opera House
An executive committee plans a notable return reception for Mitchell soldiers. The event will be at the Grand Opera House with a post event banquet for soldiers and close relatives. A ladies committee led by Mrs Gen A Silsby will prepare and serve the banquet and can appoint subcommittees.

Death in Perry Township Claims 60 Year Old Resident
Joseph Chopski of Perry Township died Monday morning at his home seven miles north of town at age 60 after overworking during harvest. He leaves a wife and seven children. Funeral services were at the Catholic church conducted by Father Shea with pallbearers F C Holshire Thos Wheeler A H Hubbard James Campbell Martin Gleason and Wm Herbert. The body was laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery.

Educators Honored At Willard Birthday Reception
A Dakota University faculty, city teachers, and pastors gathered at the Maxon home on West First Street for a reception in honor of the late Frances Willard. Organized by the WCTU, the event featured a brief program, remarks by Rev. Tomlin, Prof. Grace, and President Graham, musical numbers, and chocolates and wafers. The group plans annual gatherings on Willard's birthday.

Enlisted but Two Men Sign On With Army Recruiter
Lieut. Schumann from Ft. Snel ling recruited two men in Mitchell, Gayland T. Shultz of Fitzgerald Georgia and Joseph Jordan of Milwaukee Wisconsin. Schumann plans to return to Mitchell in winter for another recruiting run after serving in Porto Rico with the forty fifth regiment.

Washington report states Ernest Gregory of Mitchell South Dakota enlisted underage in Company I thirty fifth volunteers and served at Vancouver. A discharge was granted at the request of Congress man Burke after his parents sought relief due to the false age enlistment.
