School Board reorganized and hires set for May 14

Mitchell district voters see a new board with Mrs Jane D Chambers and A J Kings among members. E B VanAlstine elected president after ballots, J T Smith chosen as clerk and plans to employ teachers on May 14. Telescope purchase proposed for school and university joint use.

Mitchell Volunteers Form Militia Company Amid Patriotism

A Thursday meeting at the Mitchell courthouse organized a local militia company from volunteers. George A. Johnston led, with Col. J. M. Adams as chair and H. P. Beckwith as secretary. About 45 of 80 signers attended, drill masters were chosen, and enlistment continued at Col. Adams' office. Gov. Lee telegram said regimental calls may come soon.

Suit Filed for Damages Over Arrest of Wrong Man

C E Forbes of Blooming Prairie Minnesota sues Chief of Police Reierson for $1000. Forbes was detained at the station while attempting to depart by train after being identified as the wrong man. He and a companion claimed they proved his innocence, and he was released. Forbes plans to pursue the case at the November term. Mrs F E Clark’s condition worsened and Mr Clark remains in Augusta Wisconsin with a seriously ill father.

Appointed His Men Great Deal of Business Transacted

The old council conducted extensive business with many matters discussed and bills allowed. The record notes appointments and decisions affecting municipal affairs and expenditures.

Mitchell council reappoints officials as police chief and engineers report

Mayor Fullerton presided at a May meeting where city officers were reappointed for another year. Chief of Police Reiereson submitted a yearly report detailing arrests, fines, street work, and hydrant maintenance. City Engineer Roth urged boiler and stack upgrades, reservoir cleaning, and new fire alarm provisions. Treasurer Kibbee presented monthly funds, with numerous bills approved. The Parker telephone franchise discussion was postponed to page twelve.
