Hot Springs South Dakota reports a marriage between a 20 year old girl in men's clothing and Clyde Brisee a Smith family member. For three months the pair posed as a boy and girl to prevent discovery before a minister, causing a rapid wedding after the truth emerged.
Deadwood South Dakota June 4. Old Bill Squires a longtime Rapid Creek resident and noted local figure absconded with $1400 from a ranch sale. He promised to share $400 with wife who demands the money via warrant. Wife has followed country while he fled.
In Whitewood South Dakota on June 4 a over 100 mile race to reach a physician failed to save Thomas Foley a 21 year old sheep rancher and wolf hunter. He died of exhaustion and blood loss just as relief arrived in town.
Hot Springs South Dakota June 4 arrangements are under way for the state department gathering of the G A R to be held in this city June 23 24 and 25 A large delegation is expected from across the state
Beresford South Dakota June 4 Judge Jones decides against prohibitionists in the license case. He holds that the majority on the license question determines the outcome and not the majority of all votes cast for city officers.
J H Freeling, longtime Davis resident, was seriously injured when a tree fell on him and has died from his injuries. The incident occurred near Hurley on June 4.
Charles Mix county commissioners again rule no town meets petition threshold for county seat ballot placement. Platte Geddes and Lake Andes sought the honor. Geddes offers 11000 dollars for the seat location and Lake Andes makes a similar bid as signatures must be collected anew.
In Harrisburg on June 4 Judge Kunkle refused to move the capitol conspiracy case from the jury. All five defendants must stand trial. Former Attorney General Hensel outlined the defense, denying collusion or falsity in measurements of the metallic furniture of the new capitol.
Walter Owens, a high school student from Atlantic City, received 10,000 volts from an electric wire at Young's pier. His burns refused to heal, and classmates have volunteered skin grafts to aid his recovery.
The U S Supreme Court confirms the Missouri circuit court ruling in the H C Pierce extradition case. Pierce faces Texas indictment for perjury over claims Waters-Pierce did not conspire to restrain trade while seeking Texas business. Standard Oil links discussed. Court adjourns until October 12.

Bridgewater SD June 3 The board of education awarded the contract for the eight room school building to A J King Son of Mitchell SD and C L Marsh of Bridgewater for 22200 The stone and brick two story structure will have a full basement and aim to be the finest school building in McCook county

No deaths but several minor injuries.
Huron S D June 2 The South Dakota Threshers association will hold its annual convention in this city June 17 18 at which time Engineer Lee will be present and discuss the good roads problem An interesting program has been prepared which includes many questions of interest to threshers manufacturers and citizens generally The attendance promises to be large.
Huron June 2 Governor John A Johnson of Minnesota will deliver the opening address at the South Dakota state fair set for September 7 to 12. Premium lists are being distributed with more than a dozen counties seeking space for exhibits and premiums expected to exceed previous years.
Ambrose North Dakota June 2 Ambrose reports a desperado known as Dutch dies with his boots on after a horseback gun spree through the town. He rode to a blind pig and fired on patrons, wounding editor J A Lipphardt and missing attorney L S Todd before a citizen posse fired him off his horse ending the rampage.
Laporte Ind June 2 The sale of Mrs Belle Gunness personal property drew 4000 to 5000 attendees Many items sold for five to ten times their cost with total receipts greatly exceeding expectations The season's bustle included vendors and refreshment stands with over 500 rigs parked on the farm The dog sold for 107 and the horse driven by Gunness before the fire drew intense interest
David Jacobson 19 confesses presence at the killing of Robert C. Holmes purchasing agent for Edison Commonwealth Company found dead May 21. He implicates three others in custody Samuel McEwen Charles Lewis and George Miller ages 19 to 24. McEwen attacked Holmes and knocked him down while Lewis struck him with a hammer.
San Francisco dispatch reports Private James Black of the Sixty-fifth Company Coast Artillery Corps shot himself at the Presidio yesterday and died from the wound. Born in Burlington Iowa, he was 25 years old.
Geddes S D May 30 Within miles of Geddes the cyclone and hail storm will cause between fifty thousand and seventy five thousand dollars in damage. Outbuildings and crops suffer most as horses hogs and chickens die in large numbers when barns collapse. The storm traveled from the river through Charles Mix county toward Platte damaging a rich agricultural district.
Sioux Falls May 30 The South Dakota Central Railway company newly completed to Witertown has given a trust deed to the American Trust and Savings company of Chicago for 1 000 000 for improvements made and to be made on the line.
Bridgewater South Dakota May 30 a severe wind and rain storm swept Tuesday night damaging farm property. Principal sufferers include C P Hanson renter whose house was crushed by a granary. Other buildings torn down and windmills blown over across the countryside. George Goehring reports out buildings damaged and part of his house moved from its foundation. Barns and windmills blown down widely.
Vermillion South Dakota merchants at the Commercial club meeting voted to invite more prize corn displays at the farmers institute next winter. They appropriated 100 dollars to start early so farmers may plant and cultivate with the prize in view. The Vermillion merchants believe Clay county can grow the best corn and will push output.
The Sioux Falls school for deaf mutes issues its graduating class list. Eight students compose the class, one of the largest in the institution’s history. A highlight will be an address by Hon. D. C. Thomas, president of the board of charities and corrections, at commencement in June.
The Northern Baptist convention approved a Boynton backed resolution praising anti trafficking groups. It urged President Roosevelt to join with nations to suppress the white slave trade and noted prosecutions of men luring women to cities for sale.
Easton, former Harper's Weekly war correspondent, his wife two children and nurse were rescued by the US cruiser Buffalo after drifting two days in a small launch off Avalon California. Captain A Christ and seaman C E Hooline drowned. Buffalo continued search for Christ's body and survivor.

He cites total appropriations at 851,088,670 with revenues near 878,123,011 and notes a large excess over executive estimates. Similar listings from Chicago and Sioux City include cattle and hogs prices and assorted farm commodities like hay and straw.
Wheat prices ranged from No. 1 northern at 1.00 per bushel to lower grades, corn mixed shelled at 604c, No. 4 at 58c, oats at 46c for No. 3 white and 45% for No. 4 white, barley malting at 50c, No. 1 feeding at 41c, No. 2 feeding at 42c, rye at 68c, flax No. 1 at 1.12, and No. 3 at 1.0.

In New London Connecticut on June 2 Lyle J Stockford two years old died after being shot in the thigh during a struggle over possession of a gun by an older brother and sister at their home.
At Clinton Illinois on June 1 the jury found Colonel Thomas Snell of unsound mind and set aside his will after a 10 day circuit court trial. The case centers on the 2 million estate and the influence of Maybelle Snell McNamara whose 90 letters allegedly extracted large sums.
Baltimore reports the committee on Episcopacy adopted the bishops assignments. Omaha gains a bishop, with Nielson chosen for Nebraska. Manitowoc Wisconsin June 1 General manager Esplin of the Northern Grain company announced the firm would close and retire after heavy losses. The Chicago board of trade setback of over 200000 is blamed, affecting two large elevators a cold storage plant and a sheep and wool venture. Wealthy lumbermen are said to hold interests in the company which owned elevators in Illinois Iowa Wisconsin and Minnesota.
A farmer Samuel Richardson's dog went rabid and chased across the country near Oakland City Indiana. The beast traveled 17 miles in 45 minutes and attacked livestock including 12 dogs that were bitten. Hogs bitten by the dog went mad and farmers faced widespread damage. One man escaped by beating it into a barn. The speed is described as marvelous.
Freeman Knowles, once congressman and twice a gubernatorial candidate, editor and socialist agitator, seeks admission to the penitentiary after conviction for sending lewd material through the mails. The issue centers on advocating free love in his weekly paper with potential penalties of fine or one to ten years imprisonment.
