Supreme Court Expense Allowance Questioned
The State Supreme Court faces a dispute over its monthly expense allowance of 60 dollars per judge tied to living away from the capital. The court notes judges need not reside in the capital and may hold courts elsewhere, and the issue hinges on whether the allowance is a fee or emolument forbidden by the constitution. The decision leaves to the legislature to determine propriety and amount, with no immediate challenge likely.
