Armour, Aug. 8 The teachers' institutes began Monday with large attendance. Conductor Samuel Weir of Mitchell serves as vice president of Dakota Wesleyan University. Instructor Professor J. W. Jackson, city schools superintendent Miss Della Conley, Armour primary principal PVE St Glasses t, primary teacher H. B. Schuler, professor of music, Chicago.
Ideal harvest weather prevails. Barley harvest completed. oats and wheat likely this week. Small grain yield near average. corn below average due to poor seed and unfavorable conditions. Hay, both tame and wild, is very heavy this year.
About one hundred leading farmers completed the organization of a farmers elevator company. At the stockholders meeting, officers elected include President L. Engelhorn, Secretary J. C. Wigsley, and Treasurer John McKee.
Pierre Aug 8 The total valuation of railway property in South Dakota this year reaches 21 659 000 a 45 percent rise from last year 14 962 000 The state Board of assessment completed its railroad assessments boosting values across the board including a large increase for terminal property at Sioux Falls where last year 59 408 was raised to about 288 405 indicating aggressive reassessment following insurgent promises of higher valuations.
Deadwood and Lead were left without gas for about a day after workers staged a drunken spree. The night crew failed to report and the plant’s outage caused cooking and lighting inconveniences in both cities. Workers later returned and were forgiven.

Two horses owned by Charles Bartlett were condemned and shot following testing. D C Richardson and M H Fox each had one horse shot after testing. L S Deming had a horse tested after being driven by one of the condemned animals. All city watering troughs were closed to curb contagion.
Sioux Falls dispatch says the state railroad commissioners will meet August 29 at their headquarters to begin plans for lowering passenger rates. railroad line representatives have been invited to attend and present their positions, with notices sent by Secretary W H Stanley.
In Spearfish on August 7 Norton Moses son of the sheriff of Butte county was blinded in one eye and possibly both when an acid mixture splashed from a bowl while Zioses, a local drug store clerk, was preparing a prescription.
Des Moines Aug 7 The Bolton hardware store at 624 North Locust street long run by the Bolton family for more than thirty seven years has been sold to J F Liedsle of Sioux Falls South Dakota. The new proprietor is expected soon to take charge of the business.
Mecon Missouri August 7 A story of enduring love unfolds as Mrs. Robert Moss 59 pleads for police help in finding her husband 74 who left with proceeds from selling their home to start a Kirksville restaurant. She defends him amid missing husband rumors and recalls his kindness.
During a recurrence of insanity causing thrice confinement, Christine Nenadal 26 strangled her two infant children this morning in Baltimore. Police report she had previously been committed to asylums.

Huron college will be represented in the Rochester New York theological seminary by graduate George A. Starring who earned a scholarship and was named secretary to the dean. After visiting his parents Rev and Mrs Starring in Battle Creek Neb he will begin his seminary work. Burt M. Domke of Sioux Falls and Anna Stark of Salem were married by Judge A A Chamberlain. August Baum of Cavour and Minnie Weimer of Pipestone Minn were married in the city by Rev D Rifenbark and plan to make Cavour their home.
Alexandria leaders organize a law and order league after a recent election yielded no liquor licenses. Business men vow no blind pigs will operate in the city and press for stricter enforcement to prevent illegal sale of intoxicating liquors.
Spearfish S D August 7 two young Spearfish girls Miss Minnie Packard and Miss North Tummon have signed a three year contract with the Methodist Church to teach in Singapore China. They will depart August 15 from Spearfish to Vancouver B C then sail to China with their passage paid and plan to return home after three years completing a trip around the world
Final sorting of 1905 state census cards shows the Johnsons as the top South Dakota family with 5940 bearers, followed by Andersons 8140, Qolsons 3960, Smiths 3320, Nelsons 3150, Petersons 3070, Munsons 1980, Browns 1620, Jones 1395 and Williams 1359. The Smith Jones and Brown lines yield to Scandinavian origin names as Olson and related families move to the lead.

Tor Bon of Colton North Dakota sues the Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul Railway for 7500 dollars claiming he jumped from a moving train near Hawarden Iowa believing it had reached his destination after a conductor called the next stop. He alighted at an intervening station and was badly injured.
Rapid City reports a record land transaction as Varar & Jepsen sell 10,800 acres near Creston to A. A. Vayler and Dr. G. D. Lofer of Yankton. The Jay, Allender and Hates ranches are included and the price is stated as 125,600 dollars.
John Wells of the gypsy band who was arrested with Katherine MacMillan in Grand Forks has married her to settle the matter. The ceremony was performed by Judge Conklin of Stutsman county. Her parents, initially opposed, finally consented.

Fred Scofield was killed when a blast at his sawmill exploded. Government forest ranger Thea Shoemaker, talking with Scofield, was thrown fifty feet and escaped unharmed. Engineer Rh. J. Verner was buried under rock but survived with a head wound. The boiler landed about fifty yards away.
