Relatives N McReynolds and others mourn a deceased man who came from Washington seeking health relief and died after failing to improve. Funeral was held at the house conducted by D Rohn with burial in the local cemetery. The obituary reflects on faith and mercy as the family faces grief and questions.
The Rev David Williams died at the home of his brother in law William Cox on April 24 1910 aged seventy five. He leaves ten children forty grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He spoke of no fear of death and being glad to rest. His funeral was preached by Rey S H Carter at Antioch meeting house and he was laid to rest in the cemetery there.
MIKE ELMORE a former prominent resident of Marshall owned 500 to 600 acres west of town and died in White Plains New York on Tuesday at 4 p.m. He was in town visiting his daughter Mrs Read about a month ago. A railroad contractor by profession he was quite wealthy. His body will be brought to Marshall for a funeral likely Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Catholic church.
Funeral services for Mrs J T Gibson were moved from Friday to Saturday morning due to rain. The deceased was a member of the C P Church, with Rev J E Cortner conducting. Interment followed at Ridge Park cemetery. Pallbearers: W R Scott J T Fisher S J Montgomery James Swisher G W Davis L D Murrell.

Elmer Cook formerly of Blue Lick and Scottie York daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank York of Blue Lick were married by Rev B T Wharton on Wednesday afternoon and soon after boarded the 430 C and A train to Stonington Colo where the groom has a home ready. The groom is a thrifty young farmer and a splendid gentleman. the bride is one of Blue Lick's lovable young ladies with admirable traits and will be an ideal helpmate. Friends extend best wishes for a joyful prosperous life.
Ernest Odell son of Jas Odell of near Napton married Misa Dollie Dierking of Sweet Springs yesterday forenoon. The bride has taught at Hardeman the past year. They will reside near Napton. Congratulations extended.
County Court met May 2 1910 with full membership. Scalp bounties approved for T M Smith R W Hume and Peter Solomon. Highway Engineer ordered to view report and survey culverts and build new culverts and bridges on multiple sections. Tax levy set with county road and poor funds. Road overseers bonds approved. Petitions for private and public roads heard. several petitions granted or continued. Court adjourned to June 6 1910.
The Commercial Club completed a city canvass with about 800 names found. BE. A. Hogan was appointed by the Census Supervisor as Special Enumerator to aid in securing a full city count and asks residents for assistance.
A Missouri Pacific passenger train at Sweet Springs escaped a washout while crossing the Blackwater River near Ed Weber's farm. High water loosened the road bed and the last car swung four feet off line but remained on the rails. Service over the creek was abandoned except for a daily water transfer by skiff for mail and passengers. The flood stage did not reach 1905 levels.
Dave Piper, a 16 year old colored boy from Mt Leonard, was killed Friday morning near the C A track between Mt Leonard and Shackelford. He was walking with a heavy bundle and unaware of an oncoming east bound passenger train. The body was taken to Marshall where an inquest was held before burial at his home. The day was rainy and the accident described as a sad affair.
Edward Rogers of Grand Pass, a Missouri Pacific Railway section hand, was found dead beside the track three miles west of Grand Pass Tuesday morning. Overworked during flood relief, he likely fell asleep on the night watch and was struck by a passing freight. He left behind a wife, two young children, and his parents. no intoxication. His head was crushed.
Fred Klinge and Richard Scully faced a close call when their buggy team went out of control on the Sat Fork near Kaiser's bridge. Klinge escaped by swimming, then rescued Scully who could not swim. The team was feared drowned but later found safe.
Display Work Lincoln School will publicly display its drawing sewing and industrial work next Thursday May 19 from 9 to 12 a m. The public is invited to call and inspect. The school will have its closing exercises the following day. William Harrison Gwinn who resided with his nephew Jo Mullins near Miami celebrated his 61 birth day anniversary on Monday May 9. We are having a picture made and will present it with a sketch of his life next week.
Thomas Adams is reported very ill at his residence on East Yerby with condition unclear and family at his side awaiting medical attention.
J W Caldwell and H C Hayes captured six young wolves about two months old northeast of town on Saturday evening. They transported two to Marshall and visited the Republican offices with them. The report notes this was a rare success in keeping wolves from the door and hopes the pair will catch the old wolves as they use the young as bait.
The Missouri Drummers occupy the city with a schedule of events. An automobile parade starts at 9 30, a baseball game at 10 30 between Kirksville Osteopaths and M V C, a 2 to 3 30 pm visiting ladies reception at Elks rooms, a 4 30 pm dress parade, an open air concert by Poepping's band at 7 30 pm, and a grand ball at 9 30 pm. On Saturday at 10 am a business meeting of Drummers is planned at Opera House.
National Stock Yards I May 10 cattle receipts 3000 with steady trade. Choice 1458 lb steers at 5.25 and 920 lb yearlings at 7.95. Heavy cattle at similar prices. some weighed out lower to elevate others to 4.50 though 4.50 not a bona fide sale. Hogs top 9.70, bulk 9.45 to 9.60. sheep receipts 2500 and general market about steady. Prospect of steadiness in good cattle, weaker in others.
