Parker show odor leads to arrest for burying dead horse
Ed Fowler deputy sheriff pursued manager Ed Stoughton after an objectionable odor arose from burying a dead horse on the grounds. Stoughton was arrested in Moberly, brought here, and tried. He pled guilty before Justice W. D. Bush and paid a $10 fine plus costs.

A Series of Bad Accidents Ends in Tragic Death
James Norris aged 22 a farmer near Gilliam died Sunday after jumping from a moving freight train to fish at Turtle Lake. He slipped under the engine and was killed instantly one leg severed and head bruised. He leaves a wife Bunah Huff Norris and two young children. Burial was in Slater Cemetery after a service by Rev. J. E. Norvell.

Runaway Mules Damaged Binder in Wheat Harvest
Fred Pittman of near Malta Bend reported his brother Charles lost a span of mules when they ran away on a wheat cutting morning. The self binder was badly damaged but no injuries occurred. Pittman also noted his remodeling of the Hays place on one of his farms, making it a neat home.

Finger crushed at wholesale grocery loading
Clark White son of Mr and Mrs Thos White an employee of Bag nell Montague’s wholesale grocery had the end of his middle finger on the right hand mashed off while unloading a box of fruit from a Pac car Monday morning. A physician was called and he was resting easily.

Judge T. W. King attempted to enter the accidents column but failed. While driving a road wagon with a horse he led another, a wagon tipped, the Judge was entangled in the lines and dragged briefly. He recovered, resumed the old method, and continued on.

C G Page Jraccidentally discharged a shotgun into his right foot while resting the muzzle on his foot at the Potter farm last Thursday afternoon. The shot missed a toe but caused pain with no loss of toes. He was taken home and laid up for several weeks as doctors treated the wound. he was reported doing nicely with no complications expected.

Fire destroys Rigney barn near Shackelford killing two horses
Frank Rigney's barn burned Monday afternoon near Shackelford, destroying the structure, its contents, and two valuable horses. Rigney suspects the blaze started from inside after bir eng con cobs hear the baa while a strong wind carried fire to the barn. Mrs. Matt King passed by at 2.40 and alerted others, but the fire was beyond saving. Loss estimated about $99 with no insurance.

City Council Approves Green Sidewalk and Oil Work
City council met on June 12 with Mitchell Tucker Williams absent. Ordinance 271 awards Tom L. Green a granitoid sidewalk contract on the north end of lot 1, block 4 College addition. Ordinance 279 confirms similar granitoid sidewalk work in the same area. Ordinance 280 grants Green a contract to oil and grade Redman Ave from Werby to College, with the city to pay $30 for oiling streets two blocks from the square. A tract was ordered to be paid by the city. No. 261 confirms this contract.
