Mrs Emily J Akeman died at her home near Sweet Springs on Saturday June 24 aged 70 years 15 days after long illness. Born in Illinois she married Peter Akeman January 17 1861. Nine children born five boys and four girls all living except oldest daughter. She leaves husband eight children twenty four grandchildren and four great grandchildren two sisters Mrs D T Root of Sweet Springs and Mrs William Conover of South Dakota. She joined the Christian church in 1893. Funeral by Rev Hiers and burial at Antioch cemetery. “Our mother dear has gone to rest” concludes the tribute by M M C.

Robt. 8 Sandidge longtime editor of the Saline County Progress died at his home on South Odell Thursday June 29 at age 73. He published the paper with Foster son Robert M. Dunn who will continue the publication. Born near Greensburg Kentucky in 1838 he moved to Saline County in 1855, trained in journalism, and served in the U S Cavalry from 1863 until the Civil War end.

George W Reed Dies After Illness With Minstrel Service
George W Reed died at his grandmother Aunt Susan Freeman's home near the college last Friday morning at about four years old. A longtime traveler with a minstrel show he was a good singer. Cause of death was heart trouble after a year of illness. He returned home in January and gradually worsened. Burial will be at Fairview after services at the residence conducted by Rev. Lane.
