Mrs Callie Griffitt died at her home five miles south of Nelson on December 15 1911 age about 35. She had been ill since November 30 and passed peacefully after medical care. She leaves a husband two children a mother one sister and three brothers. Funeral details not provided.
Mrs J M Hanna died Monday morning after a few days illness from Bright's disease. Born January 11, 1863 in Winchester Kentucky she moved to Marshall in 1879 and resided there. She married C H VanStone September 10 1884. She had two sons Dearborn and Charles Nelson. Charles died years ago. On October 4 1907 she married Judge J M Hanna of Stanford Texas. Funeral held Wednesday at 10 am from First Baptist Church with Eld B T Wharton and Rev A R Parris officiating. Burial at Ridge Park cemetery. She was noted for musical talent and devotion to home church and community. Surviving family include husband Judge Hanna, stepchildren Mrs D B Allen Malta Bend Miss Ida Van Stone Smith of Chicago and Sam Van Stone Slater and surviving siblings J M Sphar Mrs Jennie Gilpin and Mrs J N Hiale.
Mary Louise Durrett passed away at 209 East Arrow Street Thursday December 14 after a two year struggle with stomach and liver troubles. She died while staying with her brother Major George Lankford, and relatives planned to arrange her burial or removal.
The obituary honors Mrs Darrett daughter of Jesse and Nancy Lankford long prominent in Saline county. Born May 31 1633 at the old Lankford homestead she married William Durrett fifty six years ago. Her husband died two years ago and their son Frank Durrett and his family reside at the homestead. Funeral held at First Baptist Church with burial at Ridge Park cemetery.
Mrs Orpha Wiseman died at her home in Cambridge Missouri on Tuesday December 12 1911 from bronchitis after a short illness. Funeral services were held at the Dun Kard church on Thursday and the remains were laid to rest in the old Cambridge Cemetery.
Mrs Emma Chilcott of De Witt wife of James M Chilcott died at 10 p m Tuesday December 12 1911 at Carrollton after an operation for appendicitis The Miami News notes her death following the procedure and location.
Mrs Joseph Campbell formerly Miss Isabel Kemper of Harmony died at her home near Imogene Iowa on Tuesday night December 12 at 10 pm from appendicitis. Survived by husband and three children five sisters and two brothers. Burial at Shiloh. Remains moved from DeWitt to in Iowa. Miami News reports.
MISS KATHERINE SMITH the one year old daughter of Mrs Lucy Smith of Nelson died in Kansas City December 7 at 6 30 a m after a long illness. Her remains were brought to Nelson Sunday December 10. Funeral at Baptist church at 12 o'clock. She leaves a mother three sisters and many relatives and friends. A Friend.
August Schmidt of west of town learned of his father John Schmidt's death near Bellville Illinois after a yearlong cancer illness. He left for home after funeral services were held Sunday at 1 p.m. He leaves a wife four daughters two sons and three brothers. A quiet, peace loving man with wide circle of friends.

Nooe Peck Nim Nooe and Miss Mina Peck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs J A Peck, were married at the bride’s parents home on West Arrow on Tuesday December 12 with Rev A R Faris officiating. A reception followed and the couple will be at home in this city after visiting Kansas City relatives.
Progressive D. E. Hammond installs a pneumatic air plant driven by an eight horse gasoline engine to run six automatic tools. The system promises faster, finer work on short notice, with Hammond coordinating a capable local crew to operate it.
Rev Clarence Hodge becomes pastor of the First Baptist church and will begin January 1. He comes highly recommended and is expected to bring meaningful service. John Gallaher of Three Rivers Michigan preached a strong sermon at First Presbyterian Sunday morning and Odell Ave that night. Cumberland Presbyterian revival meetings closed with 21 conversions and 6 additions. Rev Zwingle, a forceful preacher with a quartet, aided the revival before returning to Tennessee for the holidays.
The Paptist Sunday School hosts a candy pulling in Miles' old stand Friday night as a Christmas treat. Cumberland Presbyterian Sunday School in Herndon plans a Christmas tree and presents Saturday at 7 pm, inviting all to place their gifts. First Presbyterian to host a tree and program Friday night with Sunday School treats for children, revival services had interfered with a program.

Birth notices report a daughter born to Mr and Mrs M H Day on Thursday December 14 at their South Odell home. Mr and Mrs C A Bennett announce a girl named Nina Alice born December 16. The mother in both cases is doing nicely. Dr G C Emmerson attended the Junger man home at Shackelford Sunday and left another younger man in the home. the mother is also doing nicely.

The Good Fellow Committee asks residents to donate clothing, shoes, undergarments, hats, and seed provisions for those in need. Deliver to the Hayes and Cooper Building, southeast corner of the square, with Virgil Lawless receiving donations. Committee members Fred Morris R H Duggins John Blair H H Downing Alf F Rector and others will call for items if needed.
City Council met Monday evening December 18 with full membership. Petitions for street lights on Mitchell at Conway East North on Brunswick Avenue and crossing at various intersections were referred to committees. Light issues town wide referred to light committee. S B Black granted pool hall license. Gas company dirt removal ordered on West North. Sidewalk construction ordinances 332 334 passed. West North restaurant next to Scudders closed as nuisance. Adjourned to January 1912.

Slater residents report Harrison Thomas, a Black man, shot during attempted arrest by City Marshall and deputies Monday evening. Slater hog theft and bootlegging charges tied to the suspects, Ray Thomas and a cousin, who barricaded in a house and resisted arrest. Both men jailed in the county jail.
Vre. F. R. Martin formerly of Marshall now living in Moberly is the guest of Mr. Anna Herndon for the holidays. She expresses pleasure with the visit.
