Manitoba W. I. Celebrate Centennial At Three Day Convention
Manitoba W L members convened May 30 to June 1 at the University of Manitoba for centennial activities. Marion Settee won the Myrtle A. Rose bursary of 500 dollars to further her education. Centennial Day featured a centennial dress among 130 delegates and discussions on youth family planning and the computer age. New officers include Mrs. E R James as president for 1967 68 and Mrs. Stanley D Price as vice president. Conifer Brown Needles From Spider Mite Attack
Coniferous trees in the area turn brown due to winter kill sun scald insects or spider mite. The spruce mite weakens needles yellowing or browning. Webbing is visible. Wash trees with a strong water spray to remove webbing and mites. Chemical controls include Kelthane two pounds per 100 gallons malathion 60 percent emulsion concentrate one to two teaspoons per gallon Aramite and Ovotran also usable. Apply as directed on labels.

Birdtail River School Division No 38 held a regular meeting at Shoal Lake on June 1 1967 with trustees Rankin Stimpson Fulton Selby Rapley Randell and Clark in attendance along with Messrs Davison Robertson Morris and Inspector Funk. Motions approved minutes May 16 1967 and awarding Allan Preston 100 for Summer Science Program travel. interviews planned to promote courses at surrounding schools. adjournment scheduled for June 9 1967. Miniota Collegiate News reports zone meet results in Virden with Sharon Bryant taking second in the 60 yard dash and first in the 100 yard dash, Mona Morton winning the 80 yard hurdles, Pat Wiens first in broad jump, Ken Peel second in discus, Ken Haines second in shot put, and a girls relay second place totaling 36 points. Three firsts—Sharon Bryant Pat Wiens Mona Morton—advanced to Winnipeg on June 3.

The June meeting of the W I was held at Mrs C Wall's home on Tuesday June 6 with Mrs Doran presiding. The program included a thought for the day Opportunity and a Creed. A fundraiser for Cancer Research raised 63 dollars. A bee was planned to clean yard and grounds were tidied earlier in the week.
