St Andrew's S S Holds Annual Meeting
The St Andrew's Sunday School annual meeting was held Friday evening January 17 at Miss Jean Burnham's home. President Herb Patton led the session with 154 members, 13 teachers and officers, and receipts of 429.07 including 52.12 for Missionary and Maintenance. Officers named include Supt. Durham County Federation Holds January Meeting in Newcastle
The Durham County Federation of Agriculture met January at Clarence Allin’s home in Newcastle with over 40 members from five townships. New president Bernie Taylor of Enniskillen led. resignations of Jessie Bowles as secretary and Bob Hendry as treasurer were accepted. Clarence Allin became secretary and Don Staples of Orono treasurer. Directors at large: Bob Hendry Bowmanville, Dick Bowles Nettleton, Jack Preston Cavan. Wheat vote reports were given. organizers urged Wheat Producers to vote in Ontario on January 17. Clarence Allin chaired Orono Wheat Producers meeting January 14. Tom McCausland, federation first vice president, chaired Cavan meeting with speaker Dick Stewart from Peterborough. 60–70 Wheat Producers attended.

The gathering opened with worship and scripture from Deuteronomy 31 7 8 and Luke 7 1 16 read by Mrs Tom Skiff Jr. A dialogue on Japan suggested by the study book was led by several members for a discussion on population and food. Thirteen ladies attended. minutes were read and the meeting closed with prayer.

James Will Not Stand For Liberal Nomination In County
At a Newcastle meeting on the eve of the County Liberal Action the Washington town learned Jo James will not be a candidate at the Liberal convention. He could not allow his name to go before the nomination convention for personal and business reasons. John M. James represented Durham County from 1949 until defeated by Dr. Percy Vivian Port Hope, who won for the Progressive Conservatives by 501 votes.
