Triplets Born at Peterborough Civic Hospital

Mrs. Albert Smit of Pontypool gave birth to three daughters at Peterborough Civic Hospital on Sunday January 19. First triplets born there since 1950. Attending doctor M. E. Hobbs of Millbrook notes it is his first triple birth after two decades with twins on occasion. Mrs. Smit and the three babies are doing well.

Spicer Heads Millbrook Chamber of Commerce for 1958

G A Al Spicer elected president of Millbrook and District Chamber of Commerce for 1958 in a close vote with Gordon Trick becoming vice president. The slate includes Gordon Trick as vice president and G E Liesemer as treasurer with committee chairmen named for Retail Agriculture Membership Civic and Education Industrial Transportation. Immediate actions set council membership discussion and a February 5th chair meeting to plan projects for the year. One absentee was Bev Reid due to illness.

Ray Bothwell Named New U C Warden at Cobourg

Reeve Ray Bothwell of South Monaghan was elected Warden of the United Counties Council for 1958 on the fifth ballot of the second nomination. He won 27 votes while David Dingwall received 16 and O. J. Robbins 7. Bothwell, an Fraserville electrical business owner with 11 years in municipal affairs, will lead during a period of a new wing at the Home for the Aged and rising taxes. He is married with two children and involved in the Fraserville United Church, Cemetery Board, Masons, and IOOF District 44. The council adjourned after most of Tuesday afternoon’s session.

Mrs Alfi Coulter fractured her hip after a snowfall sweep and is recovering at Civic Hospital with assistance from Mrs Geo Ward.

Hybrid Hen Lays Four Ounce Egg At Mill Brook

Mrs Leonard Challice of Mill Brook reports a hybrid hen laid a baseball shaped four ounce egg. The enormous egg measured 734 by 834 inches around and the hen reportedly continued to run about, eating with the chicks as if it had laid a normal egg.
