The wets defeated the drys by a large margin in a January 15 1958 liquor license referendum under Ontario Liquor Licence Act. Subdivisions 1 and 2 had 237 and 269 voters on lists with 237 and 217 voting yes respectively, plus 502 yes from 563 total voters 89.17 percent turnout and about 66 percent yes. Returning Officer T W Belch thanks managers and assistants for their help with the voters lists.

Fingers mangled by car fan accident at home
Friends report George Hawkins suffered a left hand injury when fingers were caught in a car fan last week. The tip of one finger was severed and another badly mangled. He was taken to Peterborough Hospital for treatment and has been discharged to recover at home.
