Millbrook Inaugural 1958 Village Council Holds Oath

Millbrook council opens its 1958 year with Reeve Geo F Harrington and councillors Lavern Gibson Frank North J T Crowley and Gordon Trick taking oaths of office. The Rev Francis P Chisholm offered a prayer and committees were named to oversee streets bridges policing public buildings town hall health welfare and relief.

Phelps Joins CBC Trans-Canada Network On Sundays

Millbrook council assigns regional boards and grants hockey aid

The Millbrook council appointed Dr J W Wright asMillbrook representative for two years and P Hamilton to the Millbrook Public Library board. Other seats were set for the Millbrook and Cavan Memorial Arena Board, Lions Club, Canadian Legion, Athletic Association, and Minor Hockey with terms up to two years. A $25 grant for minor hockey was approved. Fire protection and streetlight proposals were discussed, and the town withdrew from the Lake Ontario Development Association for 1958. An engineer’s survey for a water main was authorized, with several communications and bills paid.

Inaugural Meeting of Manvers Township Council

In Bethany Ontario on January 1 1958 the Municipal Council of Township of Manvers held its inaugural meeting at 11 a.m. Reeve E Arne Lewis McG Deputy Reeve Robert Brow H M Jakeman and Har Malcolm were sworn to office. Rev R R Bonsteel of United Church gave an address followed by scripture and prayer. The Reeve and Deputy Reeve thanked the congregation and officials for re election. Councillors expressed pride in serving and looked forward to a productive year in municipal affairs.
