Millbrook H S Commencement Delivers Awards and Honors

A capacity crowd attended Millbrook High School commencement in the Town Hall. Ralph Porter won the Dr H A Turner Memorial Scholarship for top scores in upper school science, presented by Mrs Turner, from a $2 500 bequest. George Dawson earned the Dr Norman Allen award for outstanding all round boy. Reginald Fallis presented 25 general proficiency awards to Porter, Patricia Peebles, Barbara Hutchison, and Joan Porter. The program featured glee club choral numbers, dances, aCanadian square dance, and a European folk dance. Ralph Porter gave the valedictory recalling teachers and class trips, and a one act play closed the program. Awards were repeated on Saturday with athletic honors.

Social Credit MP addresses supporters in Port Hope

Port Hope Ontario December 1957 Social Credit MP T J Irwin spoke to Durham citizens backing Social Credit noting unemployment may reach 750000 nationally by mid winter He praised early voters and urged supporters to spread word of Social Credit benefits He promised to return to Durham in January after Parliament reconvenes and highlighted Durham voters who backed the party with 399 votes in two weeks of campaigning

Millbrook announces Friday 7 to 8 pm at Town Hall as the nomination window for Reeve Councilors School Trustees and Public Utilities Commission. Voters on January 15 1958 face two questions on liquor stores and beer stores for residence use with advance polling and tax penalties noted. Bowling Standings and Highs Show A Mix of Records

The league reports week standings with West Enders and Bucks Bombers tied at 44. Ab Olan and Don Porter share the men’s high single with 308, while Mrs Ray Powell is tied the ladies high single after Mrs Ted McDowell scored 310. Ladies lead men by two pins in the high single.
