Jeff Merc Names New Grocery Manager

Walter Dale Brown of Wellsville Utah was named manager of the Jefferson Mercantile Co grocery department in Milford. Brown, a WWII veteran and former Tastee Freez owner, brings long mercantile experience from Salt Lake City Grand Union Sears Roebuck and Stien's Clothiers. He and Doris Cox Brown and their four children recently bought the Stanley Roberts home and express appreciation for Milford’s hospitality.

BYU Establishes 100 Education Scholarships

Brigham Young University announces 100 scholarships worth 100 dollars each in education. Open to high school graduates and college students majoring in education, renewable for up to four years pending academic progress. Applications due by July 15.

Legion Held 49er Celebration with Parade and Pageant

Ethel Cook won queen of the party Nin ers with Nancy Mellor or Karen Walker as attendants. Judges Dave Morris Jack Weston and Bobbie Price evaluated figures, poise and personality as contestants were measured at the pool and announced during the race meet. Adult winners were Lady Firemen Hong Kong Cafe and Lady Trainmen with 22 21 and 18 points respectively. Junior winners included the Snelsen girls and the Davy Crockett entry. Prize checks were to be mailed soon, says Dave Morris.

Minersville Plans July 4 Observance

The American Legion Auxiliary plans the Minersville Fourth of July celebration with penny vote ballots for candidates and jars in local stores. The program starts with a 10 AM float parade, 11 AM program, and noon lunch. Children’s races, entertainment, free candy, and horse racing overseen by Howard Pryor highlight the afternoon. Beaver County residents are invited.

BYU announces a 22 day Church History Travel Study Tour starting July 30 led by Professor Ivan J. Barrett. South Pacific Cast to Perform at University Stadium

The musical South Pacific will be staged July 10 9 in the University of Utah Stadium Bowl as part of the Summer Festival. Kyle MacDonnell stars as Nellie Forbush with Richard Collett as Emile de Becque. Opera Bohème follows July 19 16 featuring Josephine Asaro and John Druary. Ticket prices range from 1.50 to 5 for both productions.

Milford Folks Take Loader of Trips and Visits

Mr and Mrs Glen Casterline of Salt Lake attended a celebration where Glen played in the orchestra. Elvie Robinson and daughter Martha also from Salt Lake were in Milford for two days as Robinson recovered in Beaver County Hospital. Clarence McWhorter and family returned from Salt Lake while he is on AT and T business in Denver. LaRue Turner visited Craig Cole and Salt Lake relatives, Ernest Kanell and Frank Terry. Bert Merryweather and spouse returned from a East trip by train to Detroit Palmyra Buffalo New York City and Long Island visiting relatives. They stopped at Cleveland Nauvoo and Boys Town en route home. Gale Banks and two children left Milford June 11 for Rochester New York with East side trips including Niagara Falls and Canada and returned to Milford Monday. Mike Brimberry and wife plan a new home over their previous basement dwelling.
