Jaycees arrange a 12 hour passenger train stop to improve Milford image. Local calls discuss Escalante Service Corp and KSUB TV bids as Cedar City and Milford plan future TV service. Casual trips to Panguitch Lake and Father Valine incident add local color to a busy period.
Judge Koch hears minor traffic and parking offenses with penalties varying from 2.50 to 50 dollars. Louis W Moore cited for no license, J W Craw and Mrs B D Holland fined 2.50, Wet Morris for parking by a stop sign, M Bown fined 50 for over width load, Don Wisner and Buddy Pearson fined five and others noted.
Milford and Minersville host recruiting for the Red Cross Blood Program as the mobile unit will operate at the L D Church from 4 to 7 PM. Residents may donate blood with no charge to patients. the program relies on donor participation to supply blood nationwide.
John Dewberry of Cedar City, representative of the Escalante Service Corporation, says tests to locate the best spot for a television receiving tower will be done in Milford next week. The firm has a Milford subscriber television franchise and will be accompanied by RCA engineers and a mobile signal truck.
A Mill ford layover turned into a scenic excursion for more than 150 Union Pacific passengers. Jaycee volunteers shuttled travelers to a canyon retreat where they biked, flower gathered, and relaxed by a shaded stream.
Milford Jaycees formed recently in a special session set charter night for Saturday July 30 and appointed committees to guide civic improvement. President Ted Christén emphasized tackling goals one by one and the fly spray program with the city council, chaired by Dr Christ... collected funds to finance the effort with Jaycees visiting homes Tuesday to seek a $1 contribution per household.
New Lions Club officers were installed at the regulations meeting in the Hong Kong Cafe Wednesday evening. President J. D. Kirk, along with vice president Warren Johnson and others, were inducted. Kirk urged action, promising a party for every completed project as committees were announced.
Southern Utah Broadcasting Co. pledges television should be free to all in Southern Utah. It notes rapid technical progress and a drop in small market station costs, making a local station feasible, as it seeks public support.
Learn to Swim classes begin next Tuesday at Milford municipal pool directed by Coach Lee Pettey with lifeguard Randy Morris. Girls train Tuesdays and boys Wednesdays at 10 am for beginners and 11 am for advanced. classes are free as part of summer recreation. Children six and up admitted, younger children may attend with a swimming parent or guardian.
A weekly story hour for children 4 years old and older will be held Sundays from 4 15 to 5 15 p.m. in the Beaver County Clinic rear rooms conducted by Mrs Evelyn Mayer. Activities include nature health character building and geography stories plus music appreciation and a rhythm band plan. Free transportation is provided on request. call 47 W for details.
