Sale of White Market Ends Merchandising Era in Milford

Milford marks the end of a 33 year merchandising era with the sale of the White Market to the Lund brothers effective Saturday night. The market began in 1922 founded by Joseph R. Murdock, later run by son Gordon Murdock who purchased it in 1952.

Dy. Theodore Christensen an Milford optometrist was chosen president of the newly formed Milford Junior Chamber of Commerce at a canyon outing meeting. Named to guide the Jaycees for the year are Warren Johnson vice president, W L Snelson secretary, J C Pennney store manager, Sheldon Seltzer pastor, and Dr. David A Symon director. Over 15 charter members joined and monthly meetings will be scheduled.

Two pet owls escaped their cage from Larry H Kinross in Milford causing a flurry of excitement as they perched on a fence and puffed up at onlookers. The birds, tied to Kinross, hid under a woodpile and have since eluded capture during morning yard walks.

Train wreck piles lp cars at Lund

Twelve loaded coal cars and six empty Iron Mountain ore cars piled in a twisted mass of coal and bent iron when a southbound freight wrecked into an Iron Mountain drag on the siding at Lund last Friday. One loaded car derailed the track near a depot switch and upended, starting the pileup. No injuries, passing track cleared within hours, no passenger trains delayed.

Services Held Saturday for Marion Barnes

Funeral services were held Saturday for Marion Ballen Barnes 20 who died from injuries suffered in an auto crash near Beaver on Utah 21. He died after an extended fight with injuries and artificial respiration at Milford Hospital with full American Legion honors at the grave. Survivors include his parents five brothers a sister and a grandfather. Burial followed in Milford cemetery.

Milford pool hours set with family night

Milford pool director Lee Pettey announced hours for the new municipal pool. Weekday afternoons 1 to 4, Sundays 1 30 to 4 30, evenings 5 30 to 7 50 with general admission 50e. Children under 12 10c 13 to 16 25e adults 350. The pool is closed Mondays. Thursday is family night with 10c 35e admission.

Forty-Niner Celebration Highlighted by Beaver County Horse Races

Beaver county horses and riders headline the Forty-Niner celebration with six races led by a four mile kid pony and multiple saddle horse events. Admission is 25 and 50 cents, with parade floats invited for cash prizes and a full all day program from 6 am to 8 pm plus a dance late evening.

Language classes for youths at University of Utah

The University of Utah offers language classes for youths aged 12 to 14, co sponsored by the department of languages and Utah extension divisions. The program runs June 20 at Stewart School on campus from 1 pm with 20 students per class. A concurrent one hour swimming session begins at 4 pm. Fee is 25 dollars for both activities. Local Visitors Return Home After Stay

Mrs. Jackie Lomax of Silt Lake visits her uncle Mr. and Mrs. Max Meehan. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Smithson were in Los Angeles for 12 days as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Forgie and returned home Monday.

Farmers to vote on wheat allotments in county referendum

Beaver County farmers will vote June 25 on whether the marketing quota program applies to the 1956 wheat crop. Each grower will receive their 1956 allotment and a leaflet explaining operations. If approved, price support and penalties for excess production are outlined. Two thirds of voters must favor quotas to implement the program.
