Cultivate Corn Shallow but Often for Moisture Retention

Farm notes advise frequent shallow cultivation to control weeds and form a surface mulch. With ample moisture, corn yields can rise up to 60 percent, and cultivation should start with a spike tooth harrow before emergence, then switch to a cultivator as plants grow.

The first year frame Science club of the 4-H organized at Mrs J M Hughes home with Ina Smith as president Phyllis Whitbeck as secretary and treasurer Katharine Kirk as reporter Mel Sthel Nelson the general instructor attended. Members present included Ina Smith Katherine Kirk Venita Smith Adele Kinney Patra Young Seldona Jensen Lois Altman and Phyllis Whitbeeck. The club will meet Fridays at 4 pm at the high school.

Publishers Feted in Beaver Legion Hall Party

A Friday evening celebration at the Beaver Legion hall honored Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Saunders, longtime publishers of the Beaver Press. The Saunders have sold the paper to Karl S. Carlton and plan to depart for the East in June.

Funeral for Kathryn Griffiths a Milford teen remembered

Funeral services for Kathryn Lucy Griffiths age 13 were held in Milford on Sunday. Speakers included Bishop E H Bird and former Bishop William A Miller. Griffiths daughter of Morgan and Mrs Griffiths was captain of the girls basketball team and active in 4 H and L D S church work. Survived by parents a sister Alice and brothers Clyde Monto and Abe.

Canyon Work Set For Sunday Beavers Dam Plan

Beaver County Fish and Game club schedules a Sunday work outing to enlarge a dam in Beaver canyon with state equipment. Participants will depart Beaver at 8 AM, bringing shovels or picks, with some limited to forenoon work due to Milford and Minersville baseball games.

Forest Office Work Share At Ogden For Stewart Absence

The project, likely to become outstanding, is led by Dr. George Stewart formerly of U S A C now with the regional forest office in Ogden. Selar Hutchings, also with the Ogden forest office, shares heavy duties and will handle duties during Stewart’s absence at headquarters.

C C C Forest Camp Men To Get Planned Nutritious Menus

Regional forester RK Rutledge announced in Ogden that Uncle Sam’s forest workers will be fed with scientifically arranged menus. Major General Malin Craig provided the food plan, noting model weekly menus with breakfast lunch and supper, including oatmeal, frankfurters, Irish stew, and roast beef. The program aims to boost weight and energy as workers complete half the day before noon and have larger evening meals.

A crew of 20 Beaver men, led by forest ranger Hammer M. Christensen, prepares a site in Beaver canyon for a government forest conservation camp with the road to the site expected to open to traffic in a few days. Various local residents travel, marry, or visit, including Mrs Brig Carter and two daughters heading to Los Angeles, and Sherman Hickman’s June 1 marriage in Eureka.

C N Woods assistant regional forest service director explains Utah enlistments exceed pro rata shares and overhead operations use state workers. He notes eastern cities supply experienced labor for western forests and 1800 men are allotted to Utah. Materials and land for camps to be purchased within worker states.

Committee Named to Nominate Officers for Milford Lions

Milford Lions Club at a Wednesday luncheon named Past Presidents Pool Parfish and Wynaught to nominate officers for the coming year. Wynaught was elected delegate to the Utah Idaho Lions district convention in Ogden on June 19. Other attendees included Ellingsworth Hubbell Murdock Nelson Koch Pool Parrish and Williams.

Childless marriages face higher divorce risk study finds

Research from the Human Betterment foundation in Pasadena, California shows childless marriages are nine times likelier to end in divorce than those with one child. Each additional child halves the divorce probability. most divorces occur among childless or one child couples across five of six states.

Third Year Foods Club Holds Business Meeting

A May 22 meeting led by President Ardith Bird outlined the summer work for the Third Year Foods club. Attendees: Ardith Bird Margaret Moore Maite Gillies Itha Patterson Margaret Peterson Selma Johnson Marie Carlson and Carol Smith. The group planned weekly meetings on Thursdays at 3 pm and a Silver Tea for parents on June 1 1933 with entertainment from the 4-H girls. Teams were paired for demonstrations and summer work.

M. E. Church Announces Summer Worship Schedule

The M. E. Church notes morning worship is discontinued in June July and August. Fathers Day service will be held at 8 PM on June 18. Sunday School starts at 10:00 AM and Evening Worship at 8:00 PM. Joyce B. Webster, Pastor extends welcome.
