Auto Valuations Rise in Beaver County Report

State board of equalization data shows automobile valuations in Beaver County climbing from 10641.60 in 1929 to 12812.00 in 1980, with further increases likely as the law requires automobile assessment before license plates can be issued. Crushed by cave in at Moscow mine

Will Stewart Jr of Adamsville is in Milford hospital in serious condition after a cave in at the Moscow mine. A drift at the 1600 foot level collapsed as he and visitors left. Stewart suffers two pelvic fractures, a severe scalp wound, and extensive injuries but is expected to recover after extended bed rest.

Local boys confess to slot machine theft

In Milford a recent slot machine theft targeted the P. P. O. C. Garage. Two machines were stolen and later found damaged in the brush west of town. Police issued warrants for Harold Tomsik Henry White and Cecil Edwards who admitted the crime, with a preliminary hearing set for Monday.

Barber Shop Change Hands In Milford City

Rogers from Caliente has bought equity in Amiel Kelson's Barber Shop and took charge Monday. He previously ran Shorty's Barber Shop and has many Milford friends. visitors include Mr and Mrs E H Vance of Salt Lake City and Mr and Mrs Garatte Wilkin. Local officials and theater figures also attend. A new ultra violet lamp is installed at the hospital for treatment of rickets and skin diseases.

County Agent Tour Sprays Whitetop Across Beav er County

County Agent Lew Mar Price and J E Blazzard toured Beaver County with Iron County’s spraying machine to combat whitetop. They visited Milford and Beaver farms Wednesday, reporting patches treated last season show no signs this year, and urged Beaver County officials to buy a similar sprayer.

Lions Appoint Delegates to International Convention

Milford Lions Club members were named delegates and alternates for the International Convention in Denver from July 15 to 18, 1930. M. H. Pool and L. A. Wynaught were named delegates, with Sam Cline and George Jefferson as alternates, and the club plans to send at least two members with possible extra attendees.

Work Progressing Fine at Moscow

Garrett Wilkins manager of the Moscow mine visited Milford and the mine this week after a two month eastern tour. He reports cross cutting on the 900 and 1600 foot levels is advancing and good ore is being reached. Shipments continue steadily despite low metal prices and reduced force. He is optimistic about the future and expects the big ore shoots to be struck soon.

Milford opened the season on Decoration Day with Beaver, leading early but slipping late as Beaver rallied for a 24 to 25 loss by Milford. On Sunday Milford edged Cedar City 12 to 10 at home, with a return game set for next Sunday at Cedar City.

Lions Legion Plan Milford Pool Renovation Dance Fundraiser

The Lions club and American Legion will remodel the Milford swimming pool at Legion park this summer. They will waterproof the old tank with cement, build bath houses, and open a first class facility. A fundraising dance at Hanging Rock will seek community support and tickets will be sold soon.

The Pierian club met May 27 at Mrs. Joseph Murdock Sr home with all members present and a fine luncheon. Guests included Mrs Williams and Mrs Eva Evans and others. Mrs L E Turner of Huntington Park Calif attended a bridge gathering at Myron Lewis home on Stoddard St hosted by Mrs M P Lewis and Mrs Scott Tanner with several local and out of town guests. Prizes went to Mrs Weber Mrs Rochek and Mrs N C Schow. Light refreshments followed. Mrs Scott Tanner also hosted the Old Friends club on Wednesday afternoon with attendees and high and low scores captured by Mrs Karl Levi and Mrs Piel.

Southwest destined for a great boom

California, Utah, Nevada and Arizona are on the verge of a historic expansion as the Boulder Dam and Colorado River aqueduct takeover large scale water management. The project promises massive employment, population growth in Los Angeles and Utah, and a multi billion dollar spend. The plan includes a 300 million dam and 250 million aqueduct, delivering up to 970 million gallons daily, with nine hundred seventy million gallons per day capacity and extensive tunnels and conduits. Utah farmers near Beaver County may see increased demand for food supplies.

Nancy Carroll Stars in Honey at Victory Theatre

Nancy Carroll in a second musical romance comes to the Victory Theatre for a two day run starting Wednesday. The film Honey is based on Come Out of the Kitchen and features a Southern girl posing as an Irish cook with a plantation setting. Supporting cast includes Stanley Smith ZaSu Pitts Lillian Roth Skeets Gallagher Mitzi Green and Jobyna Howland with direction by Wesley Augeles and music by Hurling and Coslow.
