Utah Streams Stocked by Opening Day

The Utah Fish and Game director Ross Leonard says all streams and lakes will be stocked by opening day. Hatchery trucks are busy delivering fish to waters statewide to ensure legal size stockings and conservation of fish resources.

Ten Thousand Trees Planted In South Milford Windbreak Effort

County Agent Grant Esplin reports over ten thousand windbreak trees planted in South Milford since spring by private farmers. Additional plantings planned after harvest as landholders comply. Local growers including Tolley, Sehow, Skyline Ranch, and Boston Land Co. contributed thousands.

Forty-Niner Celebration Draws Huge Crowd

The Forty Niner parade honors led by the Legion Auxiliary float winning first prize. The Sexo Lily Lady Train float took second, and the Future Farmer entry third. Miss Roma Jean Myers and her attendants received awards as queen and court. A near capacity crowd enjoyed the open-air dance and festivities with plans for more Fridays and an upcoming Legion officers election.

Patricia Pitchforth Graduates From Holy Cross Nursing School

Patricia Pitchforth, daughter of Mr and Mrs E Pitchforth Sr of Milford, graduates with highest honors from Milford High in 1944. She served in the Cadet Nurse Corps, trained at the College of St Mary of the Waste and Holy Cross Hospital, earning her diploma among 32 graduates at the Cathedral of the Madeleine Salt Lake City.

News Notes From Black Rock

Mr and Mrs Kenneth McKay and their young daughter are on vacation. The McKays have served as depot agent for over a year. Mr and Mrs Warren G Alsop and two sons from Bingham Canyon visit the Cricket Lime and Dolomite ring north of Blair. Hock Eldon Cowley and Elmo Bushnell of Meadow called at the Black Rock Ranch on Sunday. Mrs Hampton Burke spent two days in Denver visiting her sister Mrs W N McMillen and her mother Mrs Walter James, who has been in Denver six months. Mr Burke was invited to join the L L Peterson family at Fairview Utah. The Petersons went to Denver for their daughter Marlin’s graduation from Denver College for Women. On the return trip yes Burke enjoyed a ten minute chat with Mr Fred Jakwes stationed at Craig Colorado. During several years Mr Jewkes with the Division of Grazing in Ubiares made many friends who were unhappy when transferred to Colorado. Mrs Merrit Stiller and Mrs Hampton Burke spent last Monday in Salt Lake for the funeral of their mother Mrs John P James.

Donkey Ball Exhibition Promises Funny Hard Play

Eleven Hive donkey and 22 Milford businessmen will perform at Pairgrounda Pagle on Monday June 14 at 7 30 pm. The event pairs Rocky Mountain Canaries against a Chamber of Commerce squad in a zany softball style game with donkey mounted feats and slapstick rules. Admission 50 cents children 7 to 16 80 cents adults. Donkeys supplied by B and W Novelty Co of San Bernardino California.

Memorial Day comes alive in Milford with visitors and news

Milford residents host relatives from Salt Lake City and Las Vegas during Memorial Day weekend. Many travelers, including Mr. and Mrs. Charles Clempits of Caliente, Nev., and Mrs. Myrtle Putfat, visit local families. Merrill Jameson to be buried here with full military honors

The body of Merritt Tamexbn, a veteran of World War II, will be returned to Minersville for burial with full military honors. The services will be held at Minersville Cemetery, with a guard of honor from local units and Commander Clarence McWhorter directing. He entered service in 1941 and died in 1942 during wartime operations after a land mine explosion.
