Poppy Day and Parade Highlight Milford Friday Events

Friday brings Poppy Day stalls by girls and women raising funds for veterans and hospital needs. The afternoon parade will feature veterans groups, a queen contest winner Homa Jean Myers, and a veterans dance with Jimmy Hickman’s Melody Makers at 4:30 PM. Parade starts at 2 PM with entries from locals, businesses, and schools.

John Phillip James Dies in Salt Lake City

John Phillip James 74 retired mining man died Thursday May 20 at 8 15 p m at his Salt Lake City home following a Jonghlness He was born April 4 1874 son of Thomas and Ann Philip James Much of his life was in Beaver County as prospector mining executive and bookkeeper He operated a Frisco general merchandise store before moving to Milford He married Sarah Slaughter October 6 1897 in Frisen Survived by widow a son John Theron James of Seote Washington and three daughters Anna Mae Robison Evelye Fehr and shy grandchildren and three great grandchildren Funeral services were held in Salt Lake City Monday May 24 with burial in Mount Ofwet Cemetery

Milford Daughters of Utah Pioneers fete elderly at party

Milford Daughters of Utah Pioneers hosted an afternoon event for local seniors with music by Gertrude Fisher on piano and Eb Tanner on violin. Guests enjoyed a dinner for fifty five, with prizes for the two oldest attendees, and an afternoon of dancing and socializing.

Utah Opens Trout Season June 12 For Most Waters

The trout season opens June 12 for all lower streams and lakes, excluding high Uintah lakes and streams above 7000 feet. Fern on June 12, Strawberry Reservoir, Fish Lake, and Deer Creek Reservoir will also open. Daily bag limits are seven pounds or one fish or 15 fish, whichever comes first, with a seven inch minimum size and hours 5 am to 9 pm. License sales indicate a larger turnout this year.

VFW Auxiliary to Erect Grave Marker for Jennie Roberts

Bacalante Auxiliary No. 1546 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will plane a grave marker over the grave of the late Mrs Jennie Roberts on Memorial Day Sunday in Milford Cemetery. The ceremony will feature President Norma Wolters, Auxiliary Chaplain Dora Smithson, and four color bearers. All Auxiliary members are expected to attend, and relatives and friends are invited to witness the event.

Funeral for Wilbur Roy Killam Held in Milford

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. for Wilbur Roy Killam, longtime Milford resident, who died Wednesday, May 19, at a Cedar City brother's home. Ed Tanner gave opening prayer. Mixed chorus sang Jesus Lover of My Soul, followed by a tall by Rudolph Nielsen, Vance Fisher sang Prayer Perfect, Ina M. Fisher gave a short talk. Chorus sang Going Home, Hy Davis gave closing prayer. Interment Milford Cemetery with Bishop Carl Goodwin dedicating the grave.

Milford Rifle Club Receives NRA Charter in Washington

The Milford Rifle Club earned a National Rifle Association charter announced from Washington D C this week. Led by president Earl F Stonehocker the club comprises life and pistol enthusiasts and plans NRA registered range tournaments while teaching firearm safety to the community.
