Christmas Edition Echoes From Milfords Floral Pride

In a reminiscence from December 17 1919 readers recall Karl Carlton’s fine Christmas issue, Milford’s thriving Hughes Floral Shoppe, and town life. Funeral Held For Mrs. O. F. Hubbell

Impressive services were held Sunday for Mrs Maye Thera Hubbell 56 wife of Mayor O F Hubbell. Born 1878 in Harper Ferry Iowa she married O F Hubbell in 1900 and later lived in Milford Utah. Surviving are her husband two Milford siblings and several relatives. The service featured L D S chapel offerings and musical selections.

Desert Range CCC Camp Notes At Milford Holiday Event

Desert Range CCC Camp notes describe a Christmas gathering for about 60 men at the Milford camp with Captain Walker and Lt Bergstrom, praise for Milford residents, a fine Christmas dinner, and a program organized by Chaplain Curtis. Also noted are an appendicitis operation on William del Baker, ping pong popularity, and humor among staff and enrollees.

Richfield Editor Victim of Gun Shot and Death Mystery

J. Fuellenbach editor of the Richfield Reciper dies at 2 p.m. after gunshot wounds believed accidental amid an inquest set for Thursday. Born 1894 in Eureka, he served a local LDS mission, lived in Salt Lake City and California, and chaired civic groups including the Lions Club. He leaves a widow Ruth and children Maurice Norman Chester and Ruth Jean, plus three brothers and three sisters. City and county officials opened the inquest. motive undetermined.

Community Christmas Committee Report for Milford Event

The Milford Community Christmas Committee thanks residents for donations that supported this year’s program, tree, and toy shop. Expenditures totaled 74 dollars for candy and nuts, 62.06 dollars in receipts, and the toy shop dance netted about 30 dollars to cover remaining bills. Vernon M. Kiddies and Others Feted By Auxiliary

Old Saint Nick visited Mrs. Mary Nichols home on December 22 handing each of twenty children a cracker jack bag and small toy. After Santa departed mothers and American Legion Auxiliary members enjoyed a turkey dinner at eight. The program featured Ardeth Outzen story reading, a five member chorus, two stories by Vena Wilson, a Fern Hall Naomi Hughes duet, and group songs. Twenty seven members attended with guests from Minersville and Milford. Committee in charge included Christie Lyman Lauriel Lewis Jennie Bowen Angie Lyman and Mary Nichols.

Leave for Los Angeles Wednesday morning accompanies Mrs. Er ma Gillies and attorneys Harold Cline and wife. The former Mr. Cline and Mrs. Gillies plan to marry in the first week of January. Marie and Dan Gillies stay with grandparents F. I. Osborn until their mother’s return.

Fall manure treatment advised to revive lawns

Utah State Agricultural College agronomist J C Hogenson urges applying barnyard manure to needy lawns this fall. Spread evenly, leave until spring, then rake off and feed with nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer. Irrigate after application. cold weather will reduce odor and unsightly appearance.

Water Struck at 250 Feet Near Black Rock West

Water was found at 250 feet with a 20 gallon per minute capacity. H L Hall oversees finishing operations at the hard pan well west of Black Rock. This is the second of seven wells Hall contracted for in desert range water development under the Taylor grazing act. Work on the Bloom area well will start once the exact ali is designated by the government geologist arriving late this week.

West Desert Range Bulletin Warns of Desert Degradation

Dr. Walter P. Cottam of the University of Utah warns that Utah deserts face sandy, barren conditions without strict grazing regulation. His study compares Wah Wah and Pine valleys, noting heavy grazing reduces palatable plants while species like rabbit brush and Russian thistle expand. Recovery is slow. dunes form as annual conditions fail to regenerate.

High School Play Greatly Enjoyed

Milford dramatic fans praised L H Parsons for unusual directing talent as the high school presented Mama's Baby Boy Thursday night. The three act comedy featured a well cast and coached ensemble including Patra Young Yarl Frazier Alden Johnson Ina Smith Virginia Baxter and others with musical interludes by Alvin Baker Marie Anwell Margaret Moore and Thompson between acts. Attendance was light due to a busy week of activities.

Young Couple Wed at Davis Residence

Margarite Davis daughter of Verna Davis wed Glen Walbeck of Greenville in a Wednesday evening ceremony at 6 at Mrs Davis home conducted by Bishop FB Bird. A reception followed and the couple will reside in Newark with Walbeck employed in a Pioche mine. News extends best wishes.
