Legion Auxiliary Social Event at Mrs. Alice McKnight Home

The American Legion Auxiliary held a December 1 social at Mrs. Alice McKnight's Minersville residence. Miss Frances Wood led a brief business session with several reports. Twenty-two members attended, including seven from Milford, and a chicken supper followed with gifts given to retiring second vice-president Mrs. Alice McKnight.

First Well Drilled Brings Good Supply

The Frisco wash desert range development well ten miles west of Milford, first under the Taylor grazing act, reached 336 feet with 40 gallons per minute at 246 feet. Driller H L Hall started Dec 1 and finished Dec 13, plans include pump house and troughs for livestock.

Plan To Contest Line Abandonment

Ernest Salm executive secretary of the Utah Citizens Rate Association led local leaders in Milford to protest the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad application to abandon the Milford Newhouse branch. A hearing before the Utah Public Utilities Commission was set for January 4 at 10 am. The meeting highlighted freight figures and the branch line role in sheep hauling and mining supply movements amid King David mine activity.

Military Interment for Leonard J. Chilton

Leonard Elmer Chilton 50 of Caliente died Thursday after returning from a Salt Lake treatment. Funeral at M. FE church with Excalante Post No. 41 VFW conducting a military burial in the local cemetery. He served in World War and married Mae Johnson in Salt Lake May 1, 1922. Survived by widow four children Carol Leonard Dennis and Buddy predeceased, plus mother sister and brother in various states.

Wife of Local Mayor Dies In Her Sleep

Maye Thera Hubbell 56 wife of Mayor and County Commissioner C I Hubbell died in her sleep about 9 15 Wednesday evening December 19 from Parkinsons disease after a 15 year illness. Funeral services set for Sunday December 23 at 1 30 p m at the Le D S chapel with burial in the local cemetery arranged by Pratt Root Southern Utah Mortuary.

Funeral Services For D. M. Griffiths

A large Milford congregation attended services for D. M. Griffiths at L D 8 church after his death the prior Wednesday. Bishop E. H. Bird led the service with speakers W. A. Miller and Bird. music featured a quartet, a violin solo by Marcel Horton, and solos by Mrs. Andrew Jensen and Miss Juanita Miller. Griffiths, born Greenville April 20, 1868, lived most of his life in Beaver county. He is survived by his widow, two daughters, a sister, and 12 grandchildren. Numerous Beaver residents attended.
