The Municipal League of Utah recommends state level action on underground water law including defining underground waters as public and subject to appropriation, moving jurisdiction from county to state engineer, extending water rights beyond five years, and empowering the state engineer to conserve and utilize underground waters efficiently.

Four Beaver county boys and Rex Pierce, former Beaver high center, seek places on the Branch Agricultural college basketball squad. Sherman Neal Carter and Marshall Hollingshead from Minersville join the field as more than twenty contenders compete. Some may appear in the season opener versus BYU Saturday night.

D M Griffiths 86 a Greenville native and Milford resident for six years died at 6 30 am Wednesday after four brain hemorrhages. Funeral services Friday with Pratt Root of Southern Utah Mortuary in charge. Survived by wife two daughters Mrs Leslie Roberts Calienteani and Mrs Leland Rowley Black Rock one sister Mrs Ty Tanner Beaver and 12 grandchildren. J C Smith returns from Salt Lake report Leah Smith condition favorable after operation.
Parley of former American Legion Auxiliary presidents met at Mrs. Rudolph Nielsen’s home for a three course luncheon. New officers include M P Lewis president J M Hughes vice president Nielsen secretary Willard Nichols treasurer and Walter Weber historian. The Kidnapping of Santa Claus operetta for grade school students will be staged by the Parent Teachers group with 90 children in the cast and a small admission to benefit the school library, date set before Christmas.
Camp doctor Dr Arvin performed three appendectomies on members in the sewing bee. Patients Jack Howe Paul Mecham and Jack Beagley recuperate at Milford hospital. Water supply disruption briefly halted camp use. underground pump restored from 600 feet deep. Includes humorous quips and a light note about Paul Grundy’s fall from a cliff with no injury due to a light fall suit.
The period for filing by World War II veterans for adjusted service certificates expires on January 2, 1985. Eligible veterans or dependents must file with the secretary of war or navy as applicable, personally if able, and before the deadline or the claim will be void. Blanks are available from the Veterans Administration in Salt Lake City.
Elden Cates chosen as worshipful master at the annual election held Tuesday night. Howard Goswill and I Altman named senior and junior wardens, D. H. Baxter treasurer, William Cochrane secretary, H. M. Hearn trustee. Installation set for Tuesday night.
Minersville residents Frank D. Williams and Samuel Carter were injured when Williams’ pickup, with Carter driving, collided with a loaded wood truck near Beaver while returning home Friday. Williams suffered two fractured vertebrae and other injuries. Carter had facial and neck lacerations. David Banks also from Minersville had minor cuts and bruises. The injured were treated by Dr. E S McQuarrie and Sheriff Niels Jensen, then taken to Cedar City.
Leonard D B Chilton 41 long time Pioche branch conductor and Milford resident dies after weeks of treatment in a Salt Lake hospital his body to Milford for interment funeral Saturday a World War veteran and former member of Micalante Post 41 VFW survived by widow Mae Johnson and two children with another son deceased interment in Milford cemetery. A large group attends funeral for Mrs A R Hamilton in Salt Lake including Milford residents George Jefferson Sam Cline and Mr and Mrs Karl S Carlton.
