ES A Sorority hosts a bake sale featuring fruit cake and homemade candies Saturday morning at the Jefferson Mercantile Co. Mr and Mrs Chris Nolan of Salt Lake visited the home of Mrs Ezra Walker last weekend.
The American Legion Auxiliary presents a two hour old time variety show at Milford High School auditorium Saturday at p m. Mrs Mary Long says scores of local talent will perform including vaudeville numbers song and dance bands piano and vocal acts can can dancers and pantomimes. Cast includes John Grimshaw Bob Davis Junior Kirk Gale Elmer Carlyle Gronning Jesse Long Honer Christensen Betty Davis Ida Smith Gloria Slinkerd Pat Stewart Dan Ferguson Norman Lamb Sally Williams Sandra Beard Richard Bell and more with a turkey prize for a purse item.
The B and J Club announces its annual Santa Claus party for children at 10 a m on Saturday December 24 Ruth owner states the club will be closed to adults from 10 a m until all children meet Santa Santa will shake hands talk with each youngster and hand out a sack of goodies
Senator Wallace F. Benet will speak at the annual statewide Utah Printing Industry meeting on December 14 in the Canyon Room of Deseret Inn Coffee Shop Salt Lake City. Topic is A Ten Year Economic Forecast for the Intermountain Area. PIU President Jack Lyon says invitations have gone to printers and publishers statewide. Non members may attend.
The Milford Seventh-day Adventist Church sponsors the half million dollar feature "Martin Luther" by Louis de Rochemont Associates. It will screen in the LDS Recreation Hall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday December 10 with no admission fee and a free will offering. The film depicts Luther’s life from his monk beginnings to the Diet of Augsburg, filmed on location in Western Germany to convey authenticity.
Mrs. Jefferson announced a Christmas program with lights and decorating contests, cast prizes for business and residential classes, judges to be named, and prize amounts to be released later. A $150 City Council appropriation funds part, with further money from a Union Pacific Depot kitty and Main Street merchants. A large Christmas tree will stand at Bank Corner and Santa will hand stockings. Funds will also buy music books for the Junior Oratorio Society for Christmas Carols and Easter Cantata music.
State reports show better goose shooting locally in Beaver County while ducks remain sparse. In Garrison and Burbank swamps duck hunting is excellent, Clear Lake north of the region near capacity for mallards and pintails, and northern marshes expected to keep producing through the January 2 1956 season end.
Meeker home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Meeker burned Monday afternoon due to a kitchen flame started by an air water heater. Milford Volunteer Fire Department fought the blaze with three hoses but could only control it as the frame structure collapsed and interior access was impossible. Insurance partially covered the loss.
Utah Foundation warns Utah local governments face administrative and financial strain. A 1955 Legislature created a Local Government Survey Commission to define problems and recommend solutions, with a final report due by September 15, 1956.
City officials approved modest pay raises for several employees including Karl Hanney Fred O Leary and Carlyle Stott with monthly amounts listed. The council also passed a dog leash ordinance prohibiting nighttime roaming between 8 p m and 1 a m with potential shooting of loose dogs. owners are instructed to notify the marshal and provide a description to avoid harm.
Milford’s Junior Old Timers will conduct a house to house canvass next Saturday December 10 to raise funds for the local Cerebral Palsy Fund. Donations support diagnostic clinics treatment and expanded educational facilities.
A flue fire about 11 a.m. caused minor damage to the Tony Jimenez residence. Firefighters extinguished the blaze promptly and damage remained confined to the flue area.
Milford Highs Tigers opened their season with a 26 point performance by 5 ft 11 in Wee Wadsworth who led Milford past South Sevier at Enterprise. Saturday they lost 61 to 46 to Lincoln High of Nevada while teammates Jim Rice and Gayle Reese showcased scoring and Milford fans anticipate a strong district run.
