A special meeting of area Sportsmen is called for Friday night at 8 in the Old Library to plan protests and counter the State Fish and Game Board order to kill 500 does in the Mineral Mountains this year. If deer survival matters, attendees urged.

Utah Vets May Lose 3 Million In Terminal Leave Pay

Ed T O'Brien director of Utahs Veterans Affairs urges Utah WWI and WWII veterans widows and dependents to file for unused terminal leave pay before August 31 1948. About 3 million dollars in cash and U S bonds may go unclaimed across Utah Montana Idaho and Wyoming after the deadline. The Army Finance Office reports over 109000 Utah four-state region applications processed with 17 million dollars paid since 1947.

Eb Tanner Observes Birth Anniversary in Milford

Milford’s oldest resident Eb Tanner quietly marked his 66th birth anniversary at his Milford home last Sunday. He recalled moving to Milford in 1881 and noted others older than him may have once lived here, with his birth recorded August 9, 1669 in Holden, Millard County, to Ebenezer and Mary Ann Bigler Tanner.

Milford settler recalls pioneer journey and town origins

Ed Tonner recalls moving to Milford with his father in the fall of 1881, traveling by ox team 75 miles over mountains in 15 days to establish a Milford County home. He describes early landmarks, population around 1883, and community figures, including Tanner and Smithson places, LDS church, and local businesses. He later married Sarah Ann Richards in 1894 and has nine children.

Fishermen Urged to Guard Private Lands and Vandalism

State Fish and Game officials report ongoing vandalism near Test Creek and Lost Creek stations. They warn sportsmen to protect private lands from trespass and describe recent incidents including deer thefts, damaged cabins, and a car accident involving deer near Fish Lake. Three men from Monroe and Tucfield pleaded guilty to possession of deer meat and were fined.

Berkeley visitor recounts Wayne Wonderland fishing trip

Bob Murdock of Berkeley with his father Joseph and brother Gordon along with Fife Ogburn of Marysvale recently returned from a fishing trip to Wayne Wonderland country. City of Milford urges residents to spray DDT around homes and premises to curb a fly surge seen this season. The notice calls for spraying around cabbage cane, rabbit pens, chicken coops, and any area likely to breed flies, asking cooperation as winds may spread the insects into the city.
