A fine young horse belonging to Mr. Charles Rhodes was injured Wednesday when a wood splinter eight to ten inches long pierced its neck just behind the jaw near the jugular vein. Mr. Rhodes extracted part of the splinter, Dr. Miller of Strasburg removed the rest, antitoxin was given, and no serious effects are expected.
The School Improvement League officers thank patrons and patrons es especially League of the Seventh Congressional District Agricultural High School members and the Board of Trustees for contributions to the school concrete walk. They urge visits to the school and pledge continued public support to humanity through public school aid.
Gordon Keith Lewis Armel M H Rhodes and G L Lewis joined a coon hunt near the Opequon. A first time hunter grew frightened but the party returned safely with six opossums and a coon, which was given to the new hunter.
Oranda News reports M R Crabill is improving and able to work a little. Ben George hosts friends for dinner last Sunday. Arthur Jenkens of Wheatfield buried his son Willie here last Sunday with Rev J D Hamaker officiating. H P Miller of Washington visiting at home. Frank Ramey visited the school Tuesday. Miss Magmie Maphis teaches 54 pupils. Rev J A Hopkins of Romney W Va will preach in the Christian church on the 4th Sunday in December.
Two games of basketball between Middletown and Strasburg tomorrow afternoon. The girls game starts at 2 30 and the boys follow immediately. Strasburg is expected to win easily over the under practiced Middletown boys, while the Middletown girls have trained steadily and hope for another win.

Kline and daughter Miss Octavia hosted a large Thanksgiving Day dinner at Vaucluse with Dr. and Mrs. Jones Prof Howard W. Kline and many friends and relatives from Kernstown Front Royal Newstead Farm and local households. Guests praised the day and enjoyment known to all.

Miss Edna Dinges spends days with Miss Octavia Kline.
William H. Jenkins aged 12 son of Arthur and wife of Wheatfield died Friday November 29 1912 Funeral services were held by Rev J D Hamaker from Walnut Springs church December 1 with interment in the church cemetery Sympathy of friends and neighbors is extended to the family in their bereavement.
Dr. Charles G. Maphis of the University of Virginia argues rural high schools should emphasize vocational aims and community needs over copying city schools. He warns rapid numeric growth without efficiency or modern equipment risks public support and urges better training, fewer but better equipped rural high schools and a proper curriculum.
Bell WM F Bell and Agnes L Wynkoop of Clarke county were married in Baltimore at the bride’s cousin’s home on Friday evening November 29 by Rev. E M Hough. Mrs Bell is related to Mrs Parker and had visited here. the couple will reside in Baltimore where the groom is in business.
The Elocution class under Prof. Chas. K. Clarkson will present a public recital at the Old Dominion Academy Reliance next Saturday December 7 at 8 p m. The program features plays readings and solos by the school's top performers. Admission is 15 cents.
The Parcel Post stamps are praised as the finest series ever issued by a government with twelve denominations from one cent to one dollar in red ink. Postage due stamps in green include values of one two five ten and twenty five cents. Each stamp features delicate engravings depicting postal service scenes and major industries, from a city letter carrier to farming and manufacturing, with a one inch by one and a half inch format.
A Tuesday night blaze in Richmond leveled the buildings housing the Southern Express Company and the Adams Express Company. Only a few express packages were saved from the total loss, with damages reaching about $200,000.

Alice and Louise Stickley visited relatives in Stephens City. Mr. and Mrs. Carmel Boyer and Mrs. Sylvanus Boyer visited D. Maphis. J. E. Cadwallader, Vaucluse Station agent, was in yesterday. Mrs. C. S. Painter and Dr. Frank Copp spent time at Kernstown. Mrs. Lydia Feely and Mrs. Lindamood visited Mrs. S. A. Saum Tuesday.
