Austrians Press for Peace Debate in Parliament
Amsterdam June 29 Austria's lower house debated an interpellation by Socialist members Daszynski Stoyan and Hraban calling for peace negotiations and the right of peoples to determine their destinies. The government asserted peace talks only on government terms within the monarchy. The Foreign Minister said Austria-Hungary would seek an honorable peace with guarantees, while continuing to fight if enemies reject that basis. Also noted was the Lancelot Lodge convention at Castle Hall with Third Henk to be conferred and a street march at 7 30.

Red Cross seeks ally rule change on hospital labor
Washington June 29 Chairman Henri P Davison of the Red Cross war council asked the State Department to urge the Entente Allies to modify a ruling barring Red Cross hospital workers born in Germany or Austria from going abroad. Allies refused to let consular officers view such workers passports, causing embarrassment as many recruits are within the restricted class. Davison met Secretary Lansing and urged an exemption for loyal American citizens, arguing no discrimination should appear or be implied and that personnel must be dispensed to humanitarian work in France.
