Woman Must Vote From Same Place As Her Husband
Albany June 18 Women may have the vote but those who are carried cant hang their hat any old place and call it their voting residence Attorney General Lewis has just decided that a wife must vote from where her husband does This was one of the questions put to the state superintendent of elections by citizens of the fair sex It was asked by a woman whose husband has a summer and a winter residence The husband called the winter home his voting residence but his wife wanted to vote from the country Mace She may seek a rural district trustee post but is doomed to disappointment The opinion decides that where husband and wife live together the wife cannot claim a separate residence for suffrage Another question asks if a woman enrolled with her husband name can vote in the primary The law requires she enroll as Clare Smith not Mrs John Smith but the attorney general advises officials that if the husband s first name was used it can be corrected by a Supreme Court justice
