Washington officials announced a sweeping seizure of documents and letters from contractors and agents tied to government work. The operation disclosed that about one fifth of contracts paid fees on a basis that prompted questions about legality and potential future adjustments.
Wreck at Southfield station Monday morning disrupted freight flow. Several cars carried sheet ches and quality lumber for construction, damaged by a broken wheel. Police concluded the incident was accidental with no injuries reported.

Washington June 18 German plans to shell American ports as part of the U boat campaign are exposed by extracts from the German press shared with the State Department. Officials note German boasts are intended to mislead their people while stressing that troop transports remain unhindered and that U boats have not sunk an American transport.

Nine rigs were in evidence at the public market on Roberts street this morning and it did not take the farmers very long to dispose of their produce. A large quantity was purchased by representatives of the Government Hospital at Ottsville.

Morris Rutherford as general manager of Lehigh and Hudson River Railway in Warwick. R. H. Wilbur as general manager of Lehigh and New England Railroad in Philadelphia. Richard O. Sullivan as general manager of Ulster and Delaware Railroad in Kingston.
In Goshen on May 11, John Bright as referee sold lands tied to Mana Godley v Joan and Mary Eagan. Belle H Berthoff bid 21,360 for the property identified with Israel U Leattie and conveyed by deed to Michael Eagan. A N Thompson attended for the plaintiff and Thomas C Rogers acted as guardian for minor defendants.
Gordon B King son of former Middletowners, Canton, Pa., private in U S Marine Corps, died May 28 at G S Naval Hospital Portmouth after three months of chronic heart trouble. He enlisted Feb 1917 in New York City at age 20. survived by parents and three sisters. Funeral held June 2 at 1 pm in home. Pallbearers named for Miss Georgiann arms funeral. Campbell Hall joins Junior Red Cross at Campbell Hall school.
Passengers aboard an American steamer arriving today report that a German submarine and its entire crew were destroyed by an American submersible off the Virginia coast. Officers on the lucky vessel said they heard the tale from members of the victorious crew.
The local exemption board issues a notice summoning two registrants for appearance to complete questionnaires and undergo physical exams. John C. Kalze, serial 98, order 251,376, is claimed to have left before completion. Giuseppe Salemi, serial 340, order 2,048, is sought by a Pennsylvania board as delinquent. Authorities believe they may be in Middletown. anyone with information should report to the local board.
Paterson New Jersey June 18 a crowd gathered at the police court for the arraignment of Patrolmen Paul Adams and Aquila Pryce and Leroy Pryce on charges of raiding freight cars and stealing goods. All were committed to Passaic county jail in default of bail. The case may be tried under federal rail security laws with potential ten year terms and fines up to five thousand dollars or both.

Rome reports that in June 12 clashes between Zenson and Fossalta along the Piave, Austrians were halted with no infantry advances, while Allies seized hundreds of prisoners and several machine guns. Paris says 92 Austrian divisions and 12 cavalry were committed in Italy’s largest battle to date, with heavy Italian losses and ongoing bitter fighting. Washington notes no American combatants yet in Italy. casualties among U S troops and French captures listed in official tallies.

Newburgh June 11 The County Court jury hearing the case against Matthew Miller charged with complicity in the shooting of Thomas Fullerton a cab driver was discharged after a deadlock with six voting for conviction and six for acquittal The judge discharged the jurors after one hearing and reporters were excluded from the room to prevent printing.
Rev. RE Van Dyke Wight of Webb Horton Memorial Presbyterian Church will supply the Second Presbyterian Church in Troy while Pastor Rev. Dr. Paul R. Hickok serves at a war camp. Wight will preach there on Sunday August 18.
