German Pirates Attack Sink Copper Cargo Ship
The vessel carried about 2,500 tons of cargo valued at $1,000,000 and sailed May 20 from a distant port. The eighty tons of copper and bales of wool were the discernible cargo as German pirates pursued near the coast. The ship lacked wireless and speed, making lifeboats and signals ineffective against the attackers.
