Newburgh, Dec 27 After a three and a half hour trial the jury found seventeen year old Charlee Herbert Conklin not guilty of killing Ernest Wright, a Mountainville farmer, on Sept 22. A strong alibi supported by witnesses, including family and neighbors, led to the verdict.

Mrs Mamie Haugh Shot on Christmas Likely to Die
Port Jervis, Dec 27 Mrs Mamie Haugh of this city was shot twice by Ernest Drew on Christmas evening then shot himself. In St Francis Hospital she is in critical condition with a bullet lodged near the heart. Another bullet was removed from her tongue. Drew, a Monticello native, lived here most of his life and worked for the Erie Railroad. He leaves a wife and son, parents, two brothers, and two sisters. Funeral set for Hammond Street home Saturday at 2 PM with Rev Philip S Watters. Interment Laurel Grove Cemetery.

Sergeant Arthur Hasbrouck son of Mr and Mrs George Hasbrouck of Middletown returned home on furlough after being wounded in both hands in France He enlisted with the 25th Infantry later the 869th Infantry and sailed December 3 1917 He took part in the Argonne Champagne and Verdun offenses earning a French decoration for eight battles He arrived on Christmas Eve aboard the France and spoke of 52 days in the line and the push on September 26 when the Germans were driven back through heavy fire.
