Memorial planned for Howells war heroes
A 125 person Library Hall gathering in Howells marked the fifth anniversary of opening the bar. Plans were discussed to create a memorial for Howells men who fell in the war, Joseph Alvord and Alford Walters. The Improvements Corporation, owning the building with a $1200 mortgage, will raise funds. a memorial tablet will be placed in the building. The Red Cross Bell Cell was highlighted and many enrollments occurred amid reports of the year.

Counting the Soldier Vote in Local Elections
County election inspectors counted soldier ballots from 18 districts, reporting totals to the Commissioners of Elections in Che Yarns and Boards of Supervisors for final declaration. A group of soldiers from the 27th Division including wounded and sick arrived in New York aboard the Leviathan. It is unclear if any from Middletown area were among them. Major Seymour Home From Camp Zachary Taylor
Major William Seymour returned from Camp Zachary Taylor near Louisville Kentucky where he served since September enlisting as a private in the Field Artillery Central Officer Training School. He graduated December 13 and was commissioned a major becoming the second graduate with that rank from the school. 203 men attended and 165 earned commissions. He has been discharged and placed on the reserve list.
