Unparalleled Heat Wave Grips the East

The heat wave hammered Middletown as temperatures neared 90 degrees by midafternoon and stayed high until 5 pm with a slight drop later. Overnight, temperatures remained oppressive and parks filled as residents sought any breeze. At 7 am the mercury stood at 78, eight degrees above Tuesday, with records falling amid no relief forecast. Traffic officers were overwhelmed. replacements had to be drafted as the heat persisted across the region.

Government Rules for Newspapers No. 2 affects Times-Press subscribers
