Four crashes kill 35 in six hours across four states

The six hour disaster left 35 dead including 15 Johnson & Johnson officials and spouses in Hot Springs Virginia and three crew members on a Grumman Gulfstream IL jet. Other fatalities occurred near Peoria Colorado and Alpena Michigan with survivors to hospital. Authorities investigated instrument approach and fuel storage tragedy.

Widow fund for NYPD bomb squad officer grows to 4000

The special fund for Kathleen Murray, widow of NYPD bomb squadman Brian Murray killed by a bomb planted by Croatian hijackers, has reached about 4000. Donations came from strangers including a Brooklyn boy with five cents and a Greenwich Conn. woman who sent 1000 with no acknowledgement. Murray died while trying to disarm the device after midnight on September 11.

Czech Floats to Italy In Adriatic Asylum Swim

A 22 year old Czech student paddled a rubber mattress 50 miles from Pore Yugoslavia to Trieste Italy seeking asylum. He was picked up by a police boat off Trieste and hospitalized for frostbite after about 20 hours in the water. A second defector was reported in Pescara on the Adriatic.
