Cincinnati-Dayton Road a Long History Through Butler County
Butler County historian Jim Blount recounts the Cincinnati-Dayton Road origin as a Native American trail used by settlers, traders, and troops. The turnpike evolved with toll houses, stagecoaches, and its role in Prohibition, Dixie Highway, and the rise of I-75. It shifted from a major north south route to a local road after 1960 with few interchanges remaining.
