Pickets hold line at Ohio Chrysler plants amid UAW deal talks

Pickets continued at Chrysler plants in Twinsburg and Toledo as UAW and Chrysler tentatively agreed on a three year contract. About 7,700 workers struck Toledo and Twinsburg sites when talks failed to seal a master pact. The agreement raises wages, limits hours, adds safety inspections and provides a revised pension and retirement terms.

Steel firms plead no contest to price fixing in Houston

Four steel companies and three executives pleaded no contest to price fixing charges in Houston federal court. The case covers 46 000 tons of steel worth 8 5 million sold in the Houston area with up to 1 year in prison and 50 000 in fines per defendant. Conductor Hugo Winterhalter Dies at 64 in Connecticut

Hugo Winterhalter, noted conductor and arranger, died of cancer at Greenwich Hospital at age 64 after a two year illness. A big band era figure, he worked with Count Basie the Dorseys and Vaughn Monroe and helped pioneer long playing records. He served as musical director for RCA Victor from 1950 to 1963.

Art Lover or Criminal: 19 Year Old Charged After Museum Break-In

Bruce Howard Riley, 19, described as an art lover by police, was charged with burglary and assault with a deadly weapon after forcing a guard to show him a Cincinnati Art Museum tour at 4 am using a machete. Guard McKinley Smith, 55, was hospitalized with a possible heart reaction.
