Ford may redo CIA role change eyed by administration

Ford said the CIA director post may be altered while denying a major overhaul soon. He noted continued U S political action abroad and said the changes could come after staff reviews of Murphy Rockefeller Commission findings. He also touched on busing, Sinai aid, and arms sales to Israel.

Jobless and inflation outlooks differ between offices

The Congressional Budget Office and the Ford administration forecast higher unemployment and rising inflation. The CBO sees unemployment above 8 percent this year and 6.9 to 7.6 percent by late 1976, with inflation rising 6 to 8 percent this year, while the administration projects 7 to 7.5 percent unemployment and 7 percent inflation into spring next year.

Israel keeps veto on PLO at Geneva peace talks

The Jerusalem Post reports a secret memorandum signed Sept 1 by Yigal Allon and Henry Kissinger gives Israel veto power over any additional participants at Geneva peace talks. The U S will not negotiate with the PLO while it does not recognize Israel's right to exist. Negotiations aim to be bilateral between Israel and Arab states.

Eloise Slams Dominican Coast with 80-Mile Winds

Eloise struck the north coast of the Dominican Republic with 80 mph winds and heavy rain killing at least seven people and causing widespread damage in Puerto Rico. The National Hurricane Center warned the storm could strengthen, but uncertainty remained about a U.S. landfall. Torrential rain threatened streams and rivers across the Dominican Republic.

Father of girl in coma acts on mercy death suit

In Morristown New Jersey Joseph Quinlan sues to order doctors to disconnect a respirator that keeps Karen Ann Quinlan, 21, in a coma since April 15 The Roman Catholic family says Karen is dead without the machine and favors allowing her to die rather than continue life support.
