River Angel never refuses a man's call
Elizabeth Stiers, a Marietta marine telephone operator, takes ship-to-shore calls from home with a two way radio. She has handled more than 300 tow boats and 125 pleasure boats along the river system from Pittsburgh to Cairo, meeting captains and even playing cupid. She notes she has worked since 1974 and is 63, widowed three times, with a long history of diverse work and neighbors.
