Summer Corn Detasseling Jobs for Teens in Iowa
In Iowa, thousands of teens work detasseling seed corn during three weeks of tasseling. Pioneer Hi-Bred employs about 10,400 people to detassel 19,000 acres using all male and all female crews to ensure cross pollination. Workers earn $2.30 per hour, endure long hours, and wear improvised rain gear as they repeatedly pass fields to separate male and female plants.
