State funds to back Middletown High remedial learning center
Middletown High School will host a state funded learning center to assist 10th graders deficient in basic math and grammar. About $50,000 of Disadvantaged Pupil Funds will finance California Achievement Tests for all 10th graders, two teachers, an aide, and materials. Gene Saylor says final approval from the Ohio Department of Education is expected next week with potential implementation soon after. The program, prompted by Principal George Thomas and counselor Willa Crone, uses CAT test item analyses to place identified students into targeted small group sessions and will be fully funded by DPPF without local money. The CAT tests will also be administered to third, fifth, sixth, and eighth graders this year for detailed skill breakdowns.
