Sadat says Egyptian forces could easily defeat Israelis on Suez

President Anwar Sadat told Cairo reporters that Egyptian forces on the west bank of the Suez Canal could easily defeat Israeli units. He said the east bank 3rd Army is entrenched while most of the force lies behind Israeli lines, but he avoids further war. He urged Israel to withdraw to pre cease fire lines and cited Nixon and Kissinger urging withdrawal. A rally in Jerusalem protested Israel supplying trapped Egyptian troops.

Kissinger Plans Cairo Stop Amid Mideast Talks

Henry Kissinger will visit Cairo and other Middle East capitals next week as the United States moves to advance peace negotiations between Israel and Arab states.
