Columbus AP reports Issue 7 would amend Ohio Constitution to let the state shape the 1976 delegate ballot and remove a clause requiring direct delegate selection by electors. The change targets bedsheet ballots that showed over 300 delegate candidates in 1972, simplifying the presidential primary process.
State election officials warn the 1975 vote chaos could recur if reforms fail. Secretary of State Ted W. Brown and supporters push to list only presidential candidates on the ballot with delegates pledged, while opponents demand all delegate names appear to keep direct voting. Legal fights loom if lawmakers push to drop names, risking court challenges and delayed changes past 1980.
Samuel L. Denton Jr. is appointed postmaster of Scioto Furnace in Scioto County Ohio by the regional postmaster general. His appointment is part of 40 announced in the 13 state central region.
