NTSB cites unusual factors in 587 crash
After a three year probe the NTSB links American Airlines Flight 587 crash to a rare mix of human and mechanical factors. The copilot's excessive rudder use during turbulence plus a highly sensitive rudder system and training that failed to show risks, led to the midair tail failure and Queens crash killing 260 aboard and five on the ground. The agency urges FAA to reassess rudder control design and limit sensitivity on Airbus A300-600 and A310 fleets.
