Cadets Await Graduation at Butler County Academy

Fourteen police cadets at The Hamiltonian Hotel prepare to graduate Monday from the Butler County Sheriff's Basic Training Academy. The class trained seven months with about 20 instructors focusing on law enforcement fundamentals.

Carlisle Lions Silent Auction Slated For November Ninth

Carlisle Lions Club will hold its annual silent auction at 7 p.m. November 9 in the Lions building at 465 Park Ave. Refreshments will be available. Emmanuel Lutheran plans a ham and bean supper at 30 W. Warren St. from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. November 2. Adults pay $6, kids 6 to 12 pay $3, under 6 free. Family flees Trenton fire on North Branch Drive

Early Monday a North Branch Drive home burned destroying the house of Richard Cox. Cox wife and two other family members escaped from a second story window and a roof to a sport utility vehicle with smoke detectors credited for saving four lives. The dog perished. Fire investigators from Butler County seek the cause, no suspicion. Red Cross aids the Cox family.

Trenton Fire Open House and City Events Tonight

Trenton hosts an open house at Fire Station 1 on 217 S Miami St and Fire Station 2 at 200 Cypress Ave from 7 to 10 p.m. Firefighters showcase training, vehicles, and services costs. contact Fire Chief Tom Puckett or Julie Muterspaw for details. Blaze claims 7 children in Toledo

In Toledo a mother of six children died in a Sunday fire that killed seven kids aged 6 months to 7 years. Neighbors tried to reach the siblings and a cousin as smoke overwhelmed the home. The Lucas County coroner ruled smoke inhalation as the cause and investigators planned tests on baseboard heaters and smoke detectors.
