The Census Bureau reports continued migration westward since 1950, with West population up 14.3 percent to July 1, 1954, roughly double the national gain. California adds 1.914 million. Nevada up 31 percent. Arizona 23.8 percent. New York remains most populous. Ohio up to 8,720,000.
New York United Air Lines expects all planes to fly on schedule after engineers walked out over a rule requiring newly hired engineers to be qualified pilots. One flight canceled last night and several delayed 30 to 90 minutes. A company spokesman predicted operations would be 100 percent normal today as supervisory crews filled in for engineers.
