A U S C 54 transport delivering supplies to blockaded Berlin was jolted after takeoff from Gatow Airfield. Officials favor a ground explosion nearby over an anti aircraft shell, with no gunfire warnings reported. Soviet border controls tightened traffic as occupation forces restricted German vehicle movement.
An almost complete economic merger of the three western zones of Germany was announced today. An agreement fusing the foreign trade of the French zone with that of the already merged British and American zones was signed by the three western allied military governors. This unites the economies of all zones except the Russian zone, save for a few activities to be regulated by consultation among the British, French and Americans.
John Foster Dulles said Russia’s bid to push the Western powers from Berlin has backfired. He noted high morale in west Berlin and west Germany after Western leaders maintained a presence. Dulles spoke after a three day tour of Vienna Berlin and Frankfurt citing Austria’s economic recovery and political stability. He warned only of a possible violent Communist putsch in Austria, which he said there is no tangible evidence to support.
Kingston Hospital reports screen actress and novelist Elissa Landi remains gravely ill with a chronic condition. She has been hospitalized nine days and is described as gradually growing weaker by her physician.

Dr. Ralph Bunche, interim mediator for Palestine, said he would ask the UN Security Council to hold a special meeting tomorrow if Israel rejects a three day cease fire. He made the request after offering the three day pause to Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Shertok at the Paris UN meeting yesterday. Israeli officials said the request is under consideration.
Fighting centered around Gaza and the main Egyptian military base in Palestine as Israeli forces penetrated troop bases but kept locations secret. Ernest John Teichert 38 metallurgical professor died in Belfont Hospital Belfont Pa from injuries suffered in an October 7 laboratory explosion at the university. He was a Ohio State graduate, son of William A Teichert and widowed Bonna with two children Carol 12 John 7 and grandmother Mrs Elizabeth Eberswick of Chillicothe Ohio.
Reports from Hokkaido say one American airman was severely burned and ten others slightly burned when a 250000 dollar fire swept Chitose airbase on Saturday night. The blaze destroyed the theater, mess hall, laundry, library, service club and central heating plant due to faulty wiring.
Sen Robert F Wagner suffered temporary amnesia after wandering from his Islip home. He was later found in a Manhattan restaurant with his son. Doctors said he recovered with no lasting harm and returned to Islip for further evaluation.

States demanded today the United Nations turn the deadlocked atomic energy problem over to the five great powers and Canada for direct negotiations. Chief U. S. Delegate Warren R. Austin told the 58 nation Political Committee the UN could go no further until the Soviet Union agreed to participate in the world community on a cooperative basis. He criticized Russia's proposal to outlaw atomic weapons as a maneuver and urged turning the issue over to the United States, Russia, Britain, France, China and Canada for negotiations.
AP reports Ethyl gasoline will be available to motorists within two to three weeks after a west coast oil workers strike. Union Oil President Reese Taylor says six struck companies anticipate returning workers daily. Los Angeles International President O A Knight notes possible acceptance of the wage offer if other demands are met, including rehiring all strikers and withdrawal of damage suits.
Clinton Louisiana AP report says a crippled Air Force transport plane crash landed near Clinton killing four of the 33 aboard. The twin engine craft carried 29 artillery officers from Fort Bliss Texas and Fort Sill Oklahoma plus three Air Force officers and one enlisted man. Survivors include Brigadier General C H Hart. The crew and others prepared to jump at 5,000 feet but aborted due to overcast and rapid descent.
President Truman created an emergency board to study the railroads dispute with 16 non operating unions. The move aims to prevent a strike through a 30 day findings period and a 60 day shield against walkouts, involving about 1,000,000 workers. The board members were not named and will be announced soon.
In Paris voting for the Electoral College showed the Rightist De Gaulle banner and the extreme left Communists lagging behind. Early returns put Socialists and Independent Socialists at 26 percent, RPF 13, Radical Socialists 12, Communists 10, MRP 9, and others 9 as 100,000 electors were chosen for the November 7 Council of the Republic.

The four engine craft was returning from Berlin after reloading food and coal for the blockade relief. The report cites multiple other injuries and fatalities from Saturday and Sunday across Ohio.
