Hearst Security Costs Soaring at San Mateo Jail
Patricia Hearst remains in a maximum security unit at the San Mateo County jail where she now may eat with other prisoners. The sheriff estimates beefed up security could cost up to 200 dollars daily due to monitoring visitors, searches, and guard details. The jail will seek reimbursement from the federal government which pays about 20.60 dollars per day for Hearst. The sheriff notes most costs arise from outside visitors and potential contraband rather than Hearst herself.
