Inmates Evacuated After Dual Blazes at Lorain County Jail

Two fires at the Lorain County Jail in Elyria forced the evacuation of 80 inmates Sunday night. Two prisoners were hospitalized with smoke inhalation and serious burns. Ann Dean, 60, and Ernest Sheldon, 49, both from Elyria, were in critical or serious condition. Six others, plus three firefighters and a deputy, were treated for smoke inhalation. Couple killed in plane crash near Lancaster Ohio

A man and his wife died when their single engine open cockpit plane struck high tension wires and crashed into a creek about 10 miles south of Lancaster on the Hocking Logan County line. Vernon Curren Sr. aged 44 and his wife Wilma, 39, of Prospect were identified as the victims. The plane was described as two seats with an open cockpit and labeled experimental.

Connee Boswell Big Band singer dies at 68 in New York

Connee Boswell, famed Big Band era vocalist and member of the Boswell Sisters, died at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City at age 68 after a career spanning film, records, and stage. Confined to a wheelchair since polio, she continued performing from a wheeled stool and remained active in recording and touring until late in life.
